    Sprinter Size.....

How often do you Sprinter owners use that extra space for a 3rd skid? I'm in the process of buying one and I'm trying to decide between the extra long unit (3 skid and a reasonable bunk space) or the long wheelbase only (3 skids very small bunk or 2 skids and a reasonable bunk. I'm thinking...

    Blown Engine Help

Not dumb at all! Technically speaking they all do the same thing, cool down hot turbo/super charged air. The intercooler name is most commonly applied to a unit that uses engine coolant to cool the air (think mid 80's Cummins, big wedge shaped deal on the top left of engine). However, there was...

    Blown Engine Help

Dead on! Failure to clean out aftercoolers after a turbo failure is the leading cause of "ventilated" engine blocks. Once saw a N14 hit about 5500 rpm, flywheel explosion lifted the floor about 8 inches, never found one of the clutch discs. It did sound cool, too bad the guy got fired.

Why do companies require drivers to have new vehcles?

Most of the recruiters I've worked with (none in the expedite world) looked at it this way, A new or nearly new truck usually meant the guy had the business sense to afford it. It was an indication, this guy is likely smart enough to make money. Making money means, among other things, being in...

    Freightliner Columbia vs Classic

It has to do with the shape of the fender and the under hood air management (the Century has that gap between the hood and cab, where the hood latches are) As for the rest, almost all the options available on a Century are available on the Columbia and vice versa, including air ride front ends...

    Freightliner Columbia vs Classic

Century class loaded with computers, Columbia not so much. When new, Century has 3yr 300,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, Columbia 1/100,000. Century has a slight aerodynamic edge but unless you are buying 100 of them, not really worth it. Century also more expensive to buy when new.

    international trucks

True, but it isn't much good when most of them close at 5pm and stock minimal parts. International has about the same amount of real dealers (good hours and parts avail) as FTL. Your 02 was the last of the breed of good simple International trucks. It's a shame they seem so bent on moving...

    Interstate

I hate I-79 from Erie all the way down to Charleston. It's in good shape I just hate this road, few services, hilly, twisty, the stupidity that is the Washington PA area. I-94 across lower MI also ranks pretty low with me.

    c-13

Depends on what size tires are on it and what hp/torque curve it is. Yep, the ACERT's are that picky. Two 430 hp engines could be geared different based on the torque/hp package it has. Last c-13's I did were 3.58's on low pro 22.5's and a flat 430hp/1650 torque (no multi torque or cruise...

After reading these posts like this why do folks still drive fast? Don't forget all the benefits to your tires and brakes by running slower.

Horrific crash I-65 Indiana 95 MM

The story says the Fed driver hit a truck tire and wheel lying in the middle of the road causing him to lose control. How many times have you seen spare's held onto a trailer or against someone's bunk with a couple of bungee cords? It's amazing what the consequences of our actions or inactions...

    c-13

Valve actuators, turbos and the piping on the 07 's. Some were ok but most were not. All ACERT engines are very particular about how they are geared, if its wrong the engine is very thirsty. That said, when they are set up right they pull really good!

    air wedge

Maybe...... A large fleet up here rented the fed's test track to do a controlled test of a lot of the latest fuel saving gizmos. Single tires and trailer skirts had the biggest results, so maybe this thing has some merit.

    Canada Thank you Canada

Ontario Hydro has a long history of "helping out" when needed. They also provide the services for minimal cost (kinda like parts no labor). Likewise, after the big ice storm in 98 there were a lot of US trucks up here. Guess the power co's get along pretty well!!
