Looks like my year ended on a real sour note. Last Friday I got a load from Flowery Branch GA, just outside of Atlanta, going to Freeport TX. Load had to be delivered by 3am to make the cargo ship. That was the day Atlanta got hit with the snow, and sleet. I finally make it out of there and get down to Mobile AL. The sleet and snow started up again, and I just get into Mississippi, and I come up on a car that slams on its brakes. We were in the fast lane going about 60ish. I looked to my right and didn't see anything, so I veered to the right lane. Just as I am getting over I see a tire rolling at me. It came up on me so quick I couldn't miss it. It hit me right in the middle of my sprinter and the van launched into the air. No lie, I about crapped myself. I get it stopped and notice 2 semis on the side of the road in front of me. I get out and look under the van. My driveshaft is completely broken off. I walk up to the first driver and asked what the heck happened. He said that SUV in the median caused it. I never saw the SUV. It was 8pm. I start heading back to the SUV about 50 yards back, and it's crushed. Nobody in the vehicle or anywhere near it. The one truck driver and I started yelling out, and we heard off in the distance some cries for help. Back another 30-40 yards is a bridge that crosses a washout. There was a man standing over a lady halfway down the embankment. I completely froze. There were drivers from the other side that were rushing down to them. Paramedics took them to Pascagoula and she ended up being transferred as soon as she got to Pascagoula. I end up getting towed, go to the ER to get my back and hip checked out, and the ER nurse couldn't give any details but said it didn't look too good. I sit in a hotel all week talking to my insurance company, and here it is a week later and no answer. The van had been towed to 5 different shops, and nobody could get it in their shop or paint booth. So, because they couldn't find a shop the adjuster wouldn't look at it. This morning I finally had enough and had dispatch ping the truck. It was back in Pascagoula about 8 miles from me. I get an Uber to it and the collision center said they wouldn't be able to handle it. I was like, wtf. Here to find out, there's a hole in the engine block along with the driveshaft shredded from it. Again my agent had no answers for me, nor a police report yet. I got a greyhound ticket back to Ohio, and hope to hear something by Monday. I'm not a religious person, but all I've done for the last week is prayed for that lady.
BTW. I just got the truck back a few weeks ago after having a new rear assembly installed. What an awful ending to a decent year.
What a way to end the year, glad to hear your up and moving.

What’s wrong with Folgers instant and carry an electric teapot to heat your water? Ken’s done that for years and I like it too. Of course now that he’s home I make a pot of Folgers Breakfast Blend every morning.

My favorite Flying Pilot coffee was their limited, one time only Ethiopian coffee. Kwik Trips have a quasi Kona which is good. And McDonalds isn't bad. Most truck stop coffee today is much better than the burned mud served from Bunn hot plates.

I must have not tried new and improved coffee making at truck stops.

If you're showering at the Crappy Fly-J ... afterwards head to Harrah's casino ... park in lot behind hotel ... quiet , clean bathrooms just inside .. nice breakfast buffet...

another day .. another pond
Hmm...
I am at brand new Pilot. (one at 8801 NE Birmingham Rd, Kansas City, MO 64161)
Not many spots for trucks, but 2-3 Sprinters are here.
Really nice place if you ever here.

Have you tried roasting your own coffee beans? I heard the benefits and flavor are a lot stronger within 7 days of roasting.

I do my best to stay away from Pilot. Their parking areas are practice for mega newbs learning how to hit your truck.

The great inventor...almost?

Yesterday I was thinking

How could I easily make fresh brewed coffee in the van without using a electric coffee maker. Since hot water is already available at truck stops, I tried manually pouring hot water into the grounds using my coffee maker (while at home) to try out the idea. It worked somewhat, but was a mess, tedious, and caused coffee grounds to come through.

Made me think of ways to make it work better.

But before I wasted any time into this project, did a little searching.
Apparently, pour over coffee makers have been around for a long time.
Direct pouring was more then I wanted to do. So kept searching for a simpler way to avoid direct pouring.

I think I found a solution that checks all the right boxes.
For $15.99 on Amazon I'm going to give it a try

Funny, I would have never guest that such a thing was already invented lol.

I don't drink coffee anymore (decaf once a quarter doesn't count), and even I know that is not good quality coffee at truck stops.

Blasphemy! I love PFJ coffee. I hate Starbucks too. Dunkin is one of my favorites. Hate to agree with OVM, but, Tim H also makes a good brew. I can do anywhere from 24oz to 48 oz every AM.

Pilot/Flying J coffee was very good until a couple of years ago when they decided to get into the coffee business.
Correct me if I'm wrong ... they used to buy their coffee from an outside vendor. Then they developed the "Pilot" branded coffee. Downhill since then ...

If ya add any kind of sweeteners to your coffee it'll mask the actual flavor. I haven't had any creamer for about 2 yrs. Half & half or straight up cream only.

I'll agree on Starbucks, Dunkin & Tim H!
