Karma, Guardian Angel, Mortality, Coincidence?

Have you ever had a situation happen to you that makes you think twice? I have again and you just wonder how you walked away with out a scratch. This situation just reafirms my belief that everything you do is taken notice of upstairs.

Lets back up to Sunday. I am at a truck stop sitting in my van serfing the net and not paying much attention to things. Another expiditer from bolt express comes out the truck stop and gets into his van and leaves. I had already been dispatched on a load but pick up was 5am monday morning. I stay at the truck stop for about 2 more hours then go in do my business and head back to the van. As I am walking back I notice a bag where that other driver had been sitting. I go over and look at it and its the drivers laptop computer. I pick it up and go thru it for any kind of identification but there is none. I decide not to give to the flying J staff as I am sure it would become someones home computer. So I head to my pick up, take the run. After unloading and getting some sleep I contact Bolt Express directly. They contact the driver. We make connection and I give him is computer.

That is the good.

The very next day (tuesday) I get a run to Woodhaven MI, I make delivery and head towards my daughters house in Lansing. Heading north on I-275 I am in the middle lane. There is a car in the left lane about 1/2 car length ahead of me. The next thing I know there is a van shooting from the right of me within feet of me and hits the car on my left with all of us doing 65mph. The car that was hit did 2 donuts directly in front of me then slid backwards into the ditch on the right. The guy from the right was bouncing off the gaurd rail to my left. I stood on the breaks and stayed in my lane. Someone from behind hits the guy to my left as he was bouncing off the guard rail. I come to a complete stop in the middle of the expressway. Luckily the guy behind me sees the whole thing and doesn't rear end me.

So how did I walk away with out a scratch. Afterwards all I could think of was man I am glad I watched Days of Thunder where they talk about just staying straight and they will get out of the way. If I would have swerved one way or another I would have been right in the mix of it.

My question is..... is there a guardian angel out there? Is there karma? Most will say its the almighty but I think he has others who help him. Some may call them Angels. Or was this all a coincidence? Guess I am thinking about my mortality today.

I have seen other accidents. I have been the first on the scene where someone died in a wrecked car. So this is not my first experience like this. But my first that had a good with a potental bad and just can't help thinking someone was watching over me.

Oh and by the way. The person who caused this accident left the scene. How the van was still operational is beyond me.

Thank goodness you are ok!! That must have been terrifying!

I believe in God, guardian angels, karma and that the spirit of one of my deceased grandmother's is watching over me (told to me by a psychic which I also believe in). I also believe that things happen for a reason, though we don't always understand why at the time.

I've had a situation in the past where I had planned on going somewhere with my children and when it got close to the time to go I had a nagging feeling that I needed to wait a bit longer before starting out. After the feeling left I loaded the kids in the car and 10 miles down the road there had been a very serious multi-car accident that we would have been in the middle of if I had left when originally planned. Yeah, I believe "someone" is watching over me, and I've learned to trust and listen to my "gut instinct". :)

That's true OVM, but I also believe that we are protected when life throws a curve ball at you and it's not quite "your time". :D

That is exactly how I have lived my life. But every once in awhile you are shown this glimps of what could have been. Was this a payback for a good turn because I am an honest guy and I will admit the thought of keeping the computer crossed my mind. But I would hope that if it had happened to me that someone would do the same.

So throw out all the sayings. No good turn goes unnoticed. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. You get what you deserve. etc.

I think this was my "sign". I have never been very religious but always felt that there was something. I do not buy into all the different church's. I think they are all pretty much corrupt and play on peoples fears. My "church" was always within. I have always believed that if I lived a good life that even though I didn't become born again or anything else out there that when I did get to the pearly gates that I would have enough feathers in my cap to get in.

I dunno. I suppose it's easy to think of not getting into an accident as the reward for not keeping the computer. But, I've not gotten into accidents lots of times after doing nothing at all that deserved a reward, as well as after doing something that I should have been punished for, probably. What conclusion should I draw from that?

Might have been a guardian angel, karma, the good Lord above or pure coincidence, but drawing a straight line between doing the right thing in returning the computer and having avoided being in a collision is at the very least a stretch. If you must draw some incidental cause to the accident avoidance, why pick the return of the computer as being the cause? Is it because it's still fresh in your mind, quick and easy to draw that line? Why not pick some selfless kind deed that you did when you were 7 years old? Both, actually, are equally valid reasons for not getting into an accident.

If you want to stick with the return of the computer as the catalyst, you have to ponder the ramifications of the scenario of: what if you had returned the computer and then gotten involved in that accident? What would that have meant?

More likely, you didn't get into the accident because of a coincidental combination of rapid reaction and response, the subliminal effects of Cole Trickle, and physics.

We all have our own choices . When I was massively using drugs and alcohol , there was absolutely no way that I was going to live another year . Not even a remote chance . Since I quit all of that stuff 20 years ago - exercise regularily , eat healthy , and live an honest and decent life - I guarantee that I will live to be a healthy 100 years old . I'm not ****y . Just a very positive mental attitude . That's my story and I'll do everything possible to stick to it . Since I live an honest and decent life , then my Karma will be working for me . At least I HOPE so . LOL .

Re: Karma, Guardian AngeBul, Mortality, Coincidence?

Then how does one explain the drunk driver who kills a family, yet walks away without a scratch? I believe life is a game of inches. There are times when you're an inch or two one way, you're ok. An inch or two the other, and you're pushing up daisies. You can claim guardian angels or what not will keep you a couple inches in the good. But what about the good ppl who are a couple inches to the bad? Was their guardian angel out to lunch?

Ppl tend to need an explaination for the unexplainable. I call it zigging when you should've zagged. Or in Flattop's case, doing neither when neither was called for.

One thing I do believe is the Golden Rule. If everyone did that, the world would be a better place. Conscience is my guardian angel. It keeps me out of trouble in situations that I would otherwise feel guilty afterwards.

FlatTop, it is faith.

Search "Favor" and read what you can. I believe nothing happens for no reason, and it does not always have to make scientific sense. I have faith in the abilities that science offers, but I have never seen it make an Oak tree. Faith is simple. Sometimes when we are troubled in go to the Bible and just open it up randomly, the answer is right in front of us. Another can read the same passage and get something entirely different to help them.

If I have to explain why I believe in God or why I didn't when the time comes, I would prefer the former.

As to rewards for behavior, I'm pretty glad God is merciful instead of treating us how we deserve.

A few weeks ago, there was a wallet left on the card reader at the J. I planned to take it in when I was done, but the guy ahead of me was obviously looking for it when I saw him get back out of his truck. I waved to him and returned it, cash intact.

Well, not much has happened since then, and my last load went to freakin' Brooklyn, N.Y.!

What's up with that? But, I still think there's some kind of karma in the world.

I concur, when its your time, its your time.
After one drives 1 or 2 maybe 3 million accident free miles, some may say the odds are in favor of one occuring.
I prefer to believe that the chance of an accident is less, after all those successful
miles, because of the experience.
Now throwing God into the equation. Gotta tell you I dont believe he is watching out for you as you go down the road. Come to think of it I am very sure that God is expecting
you go down those roads and serve him.
Get there on time or crash and burn, trying to do his will in his name, will get you your reward.
I remember way back..........
