Mid America Truck Show (MATS)

Truck Show season is upon us and The Mid America Truck Show   (MATS) is just weeks away and as we  have for the past nine years we will be there.   The next big truck show is the Expedite Expo and after that is the Great American Truck Show (GATS).

Truck shows are expensive to attend with the price of admission being the least of our worries.   Down time as an owner operator or as a driver is expensive unless well planned out.   Another hardship is taking down time and not being at home relaxing.   Truck shows can be hard work and in our case as with many others leaves us exhausted.

In my former career workshops, classes, and shows were necessary to my job.   These events helped me to network and stay educated on new products, new rules, and to meet people that were involved in the same industry as myself.   These workshops were not as expensive as my bosses paid for these trips and I was out very little except for being away from my family.

Now as the business owner we have to decide what events will help our business or will one more load help our business more?   The truck shows and other events give back only as much as we put into them.   If we wonder through the show look at a few show trucks, talk to no one, and leave we will get out of the show a little eye candy and for some that is enough.

If we attend the show after looking through what venders will be in attendance, what workshops will be given, and plan on parking in an area with a lot of socializing we will take away knowledge to help our business.   We make contacts within the industry and learn what is working and what is not working before we spend our money.   While we might not be in the market for a new truck right now we educate ourselves on what new innovations are in production.

Great America Truck Show (GATS)

Truck shows are not all work and no play!   They are fun and there is always something that is fun to attend or people we spend time with in the evenings.   Many years ago (1998) when Bob attended his first truck show (MATS) we made a life changing decision that we wanted to get away from maintaining trucks for drivers and get behind the wheel.   MATS changed us from working on trucks to becoming drivers and the Expedite Expo changed us from being drivers to business owners buying our first truck.

Is one more load worth it to lose out on this opportunity?
