It's a Team's Life

Counting down the days

I have looked forward to having grandchildren that I could spoil and send home and that day is almost here.  Our first grandchild is due to make her appearance in November and we will be there for this momentous occasion.  From the day, Brandy and Grant called with the news, which was many months ago I have been planning.

First things first as everyone in our family has a homemade Christmas stocking and this little girl will be on different.  A pattern was found and the work started so that she will have a Christmas stocking on her first Christmas (like she will remember), but she will know that every year at Christmas she will have her own personalized stocking that her grandmother made her.

Over the years, I have thought of what it will be like to be a grandparent and I want to model myself after my grandparents who spoiled us rotten.  My grandparents gave us the gift of time, by reading bedtime stories, by taking car trips, by taking us to see Disney movies, and one of my favorites was my grandfather taking us fishing.  I want to do the same for my grandchild and create memories of doing things together.

Brandy is still in the military and who knows before she retires where she will live but I know with our job we will be able to visit her often and if she deploys to another country the money will be saved and put away to go visit if possible. The advantage we have over my grandparents is Facetime and I cannot wait to see videos of the baby smiling, crying, playing, or just being a baby and I will send videos back or have live chats.

There is no doubt in my mind with the last name of Smart that this baby will be brilliant and a fun person to be around just like her parents.  She will be capable of doing anything from learning to walk with pop cans attached to her feet to make lots of noise, to playing in mud puddles, to having tea parties and playing games, she will have lots of experiences and I hope many of them are with me.

This year has been moving very slowly as I wait with anticipation for her to make her grand debut.  Brandy has sent many pictures all ready of her growing waist as well as the sonogram pictures.  Brandy is in her thirties and the doctors are keeping a close eye on baby and mother which are both doing fantastic.

We are very excited to join the grandparent club and to have stacks upon stacks of pictures of our granddaughter.
