When will economy turnaround?

I try watching the news, but it's so depressing. To hear the mainstream media tell it, this economy is held together by chicken wire and duct tape. I can't tell if we're at the beginning, middle or end of this thing. All the doom and gloom is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. If we don't restore confidence in the American economy, it's going to get ugly. Really ugly. Is the American dream dying a death of a thousand cuts? Or are we waiting for the other shoe to drop? We had better rally this nation, PDQ!!

Near Impossible...Bad Economy? maybe a slump with GM and Ford and abit of building slump....I don't see it THAT bad...No less then 4 new auto plants in the south alone to counter, an aerospace industry running at capacity. The media should be hung out to dry!

The latest economic figures show the economy GREW at the rate of about 2% for the 2d quarter - this once again shows that we are not in a recession. Slowdown yes, especially in the automotive and housing sectors. Of course the Democrats and their accomplices in the mainstream media are trying to tell us the economy is in "shambles" which is nonsense. You want to see just how much people are suffering, just go to any mall or retail outlet and watch the American public preparing their kids for the upcoming school year. How many pairs of $100+ tattered jeans do you think will be sold during the next two weeks? How about new top-of-the-line cell phones and laptop computers for the little angels? Of course their mothers will be carrying their wallets in expensive designer handbags ($200 and up) and shielding their eyes from the sun with designer sunglasses (also $200 and up) and loading their loot into their Land Rovers or Lexus SUVs. Of course these same individuals are complaining that they're having to cut back on their $8 creamy lattes from Starbucks, which I'm sure is just the beginning of their upcoming spartan existence. I'm sure others among us can think of additional everyday excesses that are commonplace, but these are just a few that might suggest that most people today don't have a clue what a real recession is like.

The economy will turn around after November, well not exactly turn around but either get worst or stay the same.

It is not all that bad now. It will go up when it wants too. It always does. One of the few things that could stop it would be a new rounds of tax hikes. When I was in retail the company I worked for at the time tried to bring some of it's clothing manufacturing back into the US. They could NOT find a factory to do the work, no matter what wage they were paying. All were working at full capacity. They also said that they could not put on any new work because they were have a VERY hard time finding people who were willing to WORK for thier pay, no matter how much they were offered. I found the same thing as I hired and fired people. 9 out of 10 were just lazy. I had ONE really good employee in 2 years. He has now finished college with a 4.0 and is in law school. The rest? Whining how bad things are. How hard life is on minimum wage. Have they improved thier education? NO. Have they thought about moving to a better area for work? NO. Do they do thier job when they are at work? NO, then wonder why they get fired or not promoted. Go figure, they think they are "entitled" to a wage for nothing. WORK? WHY? The government "OWES" them a living. Just ask them. Layoutshooter

This attitude you mention is the very reason that historically, the 5.5% unemployment figure has been considered "full employment". There will always be a percentage of the population that won't work no matter what the pay is or what opportunities exist for them. Most are lazy welfare sponges, others may be young adults in their 20s or 30s whose indulgent parents allow them to lay around the house and do nothing while they "find themselves". At any rate, the unemployment rate just rose to 5.7% which coincided with the recent hike in the minimum wage; could this be cause and effect? Wonder how many minimum wage jobs were eliminated by employers who decided to cut jobs rather than absorb that extra expense. Fortunately, few minimum wage workers are heads of household with families to support. If they do start there, the ambitious ones won't stay at that level very long.

Ah, welfare, nothing like sucking off the government tit. If we have to take care of bums who won't do anything to improve thier lot in life we should at least make them earn thier "Welfare Benefits" I can't even imagine thinking that it is the duty of those who suceed in life to pay my way because I am too lazy to suceed on my own. Welfare is the governments version of Robin Hood. Take from the rich and give to the poor. No matter how you cut it, Robin Hood was a thief. Layoutshooter
