The White House tonight is providing the below clarification on what the president's health-care proposals would mean when it comes to the issue of illegal immigrants.

The question, as we all know, arises from the Wilson "You lie" outburst, and the core claim that notwithstanding specific bill language barring illegal immigrants from participating in the "exchange," as a practical matter, there is no way of verifying the citizenship of applicants -- which is the current state of play. Republicans say that then means illegal immigrants would end up being enrolled in plans -- bill language or no bill language.

Today, for the first time as far as we know, the administration is backing a provision that would require proof of citizenship before someone could enroll in a plan selected on the exchange.

Here, the administration also concedes that hospitals would be compensated with public funds for the care of undocumented immigrants.

The bullet points sent tonight by the White House:

Undocumented immigrants would not be able to buy private insurance on the exchange. Those who are lawfully present in this country would be able to participate.
Undocumented immigrants would be able to buy insurance in the non-exchange private market, just as they do today. That market will shrink as the exchange takes hold, but it will still exist and will be subject to reforms such as the bans on pre-existing conditions and caps.
Verification will be required when purchasing health insurance on the exchange. One option is the SAVE program (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) which states currently use to make sure that undocumented immigrants don't participate in safety-net programs for which they are ineligible.
There would be no change in the law that requires emergency rooms to treat people who need emergency care, including undocumented immigrants. There is already a federal grant program that compensates states for emergency room costs associated with treatment of undocumented immigrants, a provision sponsored by a Republican lawmaker.

Amnesty for the Illegal Aliens Already Deported

No English required Until the 9th year of Amnesty

Temporary Visas which can be Renewed Indefinatley

Fast Track the SPP which would Erase All Borders

And give them In State Tuition ahead of everyone else!

I think that one of the most important points other than no one acted like this when Bush was 'heckled' during his state of the union speech is the fact that invaders of this country already get government sponsored and paid for health care in different forms.

We provide many of them health care through subsidies to hospitals and clinics, we provide directly to them with Medicaid and Medicare and we provide them through allowing them to steal IDs of others.

He is lying when he says that they are not covered in his plan.

He is lying when he forgets to mention that the plan is not finalizes nor it will be written in stone. It will be changed and changed quickly through some addition tagged onto another bill.

JuJu and I just got a quote from BC/BS...$1400 a month....

and that is with only catastrophic care, no prescription plan

When I was covered by BC/BS a few years ago, My monthly premium was $110.... this policy had a $10,000 deductible and no prescription plan. This suited me fine as I enjoy good health and take no medicines. One good reform would be to allow folks to shop for coverage across state lines. Competition lowers price.

That is the fault of your state, not the company. The state mandates the fees, the care and so on in different ways. If you were allowed to go to New Mexico (just threw that in) and buy insurance at $200 a month, then you would see the savings but the states do not allow it and I think no one should have control over that part of the insurance.

Well OVM, that is one reason that when I look to move I might NOT look at S.D. I have BC-BS of Michigan HSA approved policy. We have a $7000 deductable and a $450 per month premium. We can and DO use the HSA part to pay for RX, eye care etc. An expansion of the HSA programs MIGHT be ONE of the answers to the health care problem. We like having control over our entire health care package. Control equals freedom!! Freedom improves health!!

Hey here is a novel idea, instead of expanding the mess that 'grants' us use of our own money, let's look at changing our tax system to allow us HSA for everything.

Boy it could help the people who are struggling with this 'health insurance issue'.

Our government is ALL about CONTROL. They do NOT have our best interest in mind. The current tax system is designed, on purpose, to INSURE that we have a difficult if not impossible chance of ever REALLY getting ahead. They are ONLY interesting in "keeping us in our place" And we keep voting these watchamacallits in year after year. As long as we continue we will NEVER get any REAL change.
