JoeBob has the right idea, (yes, I actually said that!) though there is a difference between the everyday courtesy we should use, and 'kissing butt'. The latter is like insincere flattery, the former is how we behave as professionals. Whatever issues you have, is it the dispatcher's fault? If not, why would you be rude to them?

Right are12 but what if NO dispatchers will give you any numbers except the past 21...which u already can do the math urself 4 a day is 21x4=84 you call up dispatch they say I cannot give you the past 5 but weve had 85 in the past 21. Jeez thanks for insulting my intelligence!!

I don't think you understand averages. An area that averages 5 loads a day over the past 21 days doesn't mean there are 5 loads each day. Five loads is the average. There actually could have been 10 loads over a ten day period and 5 loads another day. It still averages 5 a day over the last 21 days. That is why the past five days average was helpful. But, they are averages.
Some truckers that don't understand averages thought the average was the daily number of loads. They (drivers) caused problems and now the dispatchers aren't suppose to give that information. Some dispatchers do give the last five day average, anyway.
All phone calls are recorded, so giving such information doesn't threaten there employment it just means they may set themselves up for a rude phone call from an unknowledgeable driver.
Regardless of a situation I never get upset with dispatchers. They have a job and they do it to the best of their ability.
Dispatchers don't jump drivers to do favors. They have to explain any out of normal situation to their superiors.
Some drivers do get jumped under special situations. But, not as a favor.

Tanks Cherii... I am saying just that .Consideration not butt kissing
goes a long way.. asking how their day was, greeting them with "good morning sunshine" starts the process off in a good way. You have considered them and odds are with Human nature, They will start to consider you.. All the time absolutly not.. But when 5 of you on a daily basis beat them down. "i aint doin this and whats this bull ***
You just make me look that much better by defalt. Trust me Im not that good. We are responsible for making our own money, and we have to deal with dispatch. And im not saying take anybull. Im increasing my odds over you, by not starting out by the paranoid, narsasistic attitude "they are against me" . and now Im against them. So amos and Panther art fight em argue with them stopp your feet, Proclaim to the world "I KISS NO ONES ARSE"..riiiiiight?? I got business to take care of.

Think what you want but just to let you know in the past 2 1/2 years I may have talked to a dispatcher maybe 20 times. And I know that this time of year is slow so why should I call and call them sweet and nice names I still avg around 2000 miles so far this year.
The team leaders have called me just to let me know how much dispatch loves having a driver that they don't have to baby sit.
Believe me dispatchers know how you perform and they never have to talk to you to know that.
And I do not take every load offered either, if not feasible its no.

First of all, we are'nt rude to dispatch. I said they were screaming at us on the phone....when we asked a question....they called us. We don't call in everytime and don't disrespect them. But when we catch them lying to us and question it thats when they become rude.

I ain't kissin BUTT!!! I don't kiss my wifes' because I don't have one!! I am Female.LOL I am just saying be careful....you will be the one in a bad situation next week. I will leave it at that

I do know how to be nice to them however and that starts at the "Hello". We have a good relationship with alot of them there.

jaminjim...if i remember correctly...we pulled up beside you and your wife a while ago at the J in OK. We had just delivered out and you had been there for a few days...by that afternoon we had a load offer going to PA. You called in and so do we question it as to why they jumped over you. This is what I am talking about. How can we operate our business professionally when we rely on Panther to be honest with us?

What can we do? Who can we tell? Driver council??...meets once a quarter??
Jeff StP....who don't return calls?? Mr French...who calls all of us cherry pickers if we turn down a load? Our owners(fantastic people)...who have a contract to protect? Tell me...tell me who?

hey joebob just where have you read on any of my post where I have said I argue with any dispatchers.
I treat them with nothing but respect because I know what they go though everyday.
So don't use my name with any post saying I give dispatchers a hard time.

just talkin bout my approach fellas.dats all.I was one of the evil managers at one time and learned in classes that the majority of problems are caused by bad communication, miss communication, and misunderstanding .. but that dont account for dishonest misleading dispatchers .which are par for the course, i dont take an inch of bullsh*** from. Ive got a mouth that runs too much and an attitude thats "thinks" it can back it up..I know, ive picked myself up off the pavement a time or two. no harm, take it for what its worth.

slfisher45 you just told me that what i said makes sence...after you said i dont understand what the averages are about? I completely understand the averages and THAT is the reason I want to know the most recent averages because that will narrow it down and get you as close as you can possibly be to knowing where is best to move. Because they vary so much like you said you want to know what was the past day to see what is the most recent wave of loads.

Hey Famos hows it been going? Boy do I remember that, I was so mad I could have chewed the lug nuts off of the truck. Hope everything is going well. I did call in about it and got just what I thought I would get, nada.

Joebob, I would think most of us out here treat people with common sense. I have watched some go on a rant with customers, dispatchers, saftey, other drivers, fuel clerks, and anyone else they thought they could bully. I think IF (if being very unlikely)you were put ahead of six other trucks you are the man.

Kang 85, you responded to my post with...

"slfisher45 you just told me that what i said makes sence...after you said i dont understand what the averages are about? "

I never did say you made sense, because your post didn't make sense.

And, I don't get the part where you said something about your intelligence deing insulted. Explain that please....

I am not doing anything here except trying to understand your post..

Macro 8 is a command for a specific screen on the Qualcomm unit in all Panther trucks. Different Macro numbers for other companies I imagine.

As someone already mentioned, we use it for distance to a board, and maybe how many trucks might be in an area. But it is only as good as the last update. We look at several load boards and see where the freight is. In the event a load doesn't materialize, we know we likely have other options. No one has the cystal ball so we go with what are the highest odds at the time.
We are pretty much like Panther_Art, we seldom call dispatch so we don't really have some of these encounters.
Alot of the issues around who gets dispatch are numerous and have been addressed in previous threads. Everything from what the shipper requests, driver qualifications, to rear door dimensions.

seems like every time i call dispatch and ask how many trucks are in an area it's always different than macro 8. doesn't seem to be a reliable tool to use for relocation...but boy that lady going on and on when you're on hold tells you to use your relocation tools. we all know it's not that easy. we had a load offer to utah. when i asked about loads out of there, we were told they had quite a few in the last week but it turned out that was for the entire state.
i think i'd have better luck figuring out where to go by flipping a coin and we all know the "HOT freight" places change all the time. remember all those loads for about 2 months out of chattanooga? we got a e.m. there and sat for 3 days and then were told those loads had dried up. right now, i'd just be thrilled to get a load (somewhere warm please). most of the dispatcher are nice, at least on our team. only one lately was less than "fun". we refused a canadian load (300 miles run delivering on sat. to toronto area). the girl who called just took us off the load w/o a rufusal after i explained we had already delivered 2 in canada, dh over 100 miles to p/u in canada, and had a thru canada all in 7 days. three truckas ahead of us declined it already. we then got a call and the fellow wanted to know "why we declined the load" and gave me a hard time about it. his attitude is what kept us from going ahead and taking it. if he'd had asked like most do, nicely if we would reconsider, we may have tried to work something out. but coercion and trying to bully us doesn't work. hey joebob, as i remember from meeting you...you're pretty good at the "morning sunshine". doesn't work for me with the dispatchers. ha-ha.

Dont think i havnt been jumped.. how bout you.. dont think you havnt.. who r u kidding son.. Im only 2 years old in this, and I dont know how ur panther peeps are .. But I understand people in general.. And I understand the game. And can get it to work for me .. always naa.. but its about increasing your odds /position. I would help you anyway could, get you off the road if broke down. buy you a drink. take your ugly cousin out to dinner if asked. Would not steal from you and i wish you well and success. But brother Im out here competing for loads.and yes some times competing with you. Just business..nothing personal. The sooner some drivers understand that p11 tri state fed ex are not their mommas but a business they can get it on and make some money...

I'm sorry SLfisher I read ur post again it flew over my head the first time I read wat u were saying. The comment earlier about my intelligence being insulted is what i was saying was one of the dispatchers kind of threw in a comment where she was implying that I can't multiply she kinda said "let me do the math for you" plus when they lie to.

Red Hot I remember you!! your the pretty one ..no offfence shaun..
yeah I took a beating from some rock throwers on th EO. They missed my point about "Sunshine" My acceptance hovers from 60 to 85% with the lowest being 40 at one time. Some do get testy ..just went into NY city after refusing one going in there just hours before ..The dispatch thought he was doing me a favor getting me out of the N east .. Conway paid 150.00 or something 2 go in and he wasnt going pay any extra for us.. I declined he got upset told him no..didnt have to yell.. no means no wispering or yelling.. i dont yell.. Oh buy the way He got no good morning sunshine out of me..lol:7 Going solo for the first time in 2.5 years... co driver movin on..I sill love memphis;)

Sure sounds like a lot of whining at Panther ( or is it Panther II still?) What's the big deal with Macro 8? I get sent somewhere and just run it. Then figure out if a better area is where I need to be. If TSES wants to send me somewhere, it must be because they want me to be there for the best chance at a load. I didn't go to Detroit yesterday, but I would have if that was better. But there better be something out of Erie today!
Every dispatcher doesn't like to hear all the nos and whining. It would help all drivers to use a little courtesy, if they expect it in return. For instance, if you know you will sit in Laredo, why do you go there? Just say you will take the load, but only go to Memphis.
