Wait and see! Osamaba when he was on his "world tour" in germany, he said we americans can not continue to eat the amount of food we do..........

Another thing that is popular with the socialist , nationalized , universal health care is limiting or stopping coverage for the aged, once you hit a certain age, you are no longer considered "worth the expense" ............

Get ready here they come.....

Universal healthcare and the waistline police

We risk a nanny state contrary to American
ideals.

Universal healthcare and the waistline police | csmonitor.com

Sedalia, Colo. - Imagine a country where the government regularly checks the waistlines of citizens over age 40. Anyone deemed too fat would be required to undergo diet counseling. Those who fail to lose sufficient weight could face further "reeducation" and their communities subject to stiff fines.

Is this some nightmarish dystopia?

No, this is contemporary Japan.

The Japanese government argues that it must regulate citizens' lifestyles because it is paying their health costs. This highlights one of the greatly underappreciated dangers of "universal healthcare." Any government that attempts to guarantee healthcare must also control its costs. The inevitable next step will be to seek to control citizens' health and their behavior. Hence, Americans should beware that if we adopt universal healthcare, we also risk creating a "nanny state on steroids" antithetical to core American principles.

Other countries with universal healthcare are already restricting individual freedoms in the name of controlling health costs. For example, the British government has banned some television ads for eggs on the grounds that they were promoting an unhealthy lifestyle. This is a blatant infringement of egg sellers' rights to advertise their products.

In 2007, New Zealand banned Richie Trezise, a Welsh submarine cable specialist, from entering the country on the grounds that his obesity would "impose significant costs ... on New Zealand's health or special education services." Richie later lost weight and was allowed to immigrate, but his wife had trouble slimming and was kept home. Germany has mounted an aggressive anti-obesity campaign in workplaces and schools to promote dieting and exercise. Citizens who fail to cooperate are branded as "antisocial" for costing the government billions of euros in medical expenses.

Of course healthy diet and exercise are good. But these are issues of personal – not government – responsibility. So long as they don't harm others, adults should have the right to eat and drink what they wish – and the corresponding responsibility to enjoy (or suffer) the consequences of their choices. Anyone who makes poor lifestyle choices should pay the price himself or rely on voluntary charity, not demand that the government pay for his choices.

Government attempts to regulate individual lifestyles are based on the claim that they must limit medical costs that would otherwise be a burden on "society." But this issue can arise only in "universal healthcare" systems where taxpayers must pay for everyone's medical expenses.

Although American healthcare is only under partial government control in the form of programs such as Medicaid and Medicare, American nanny state regulations have exploded in recent years.

Many American cities ban restaurants from selling foods with trans fats. Los Angeles has imposed a moratorium on new fast food restaurants in South L.A. Other California cities ban smoking in some private residences. California has outlawed after-school bake sales as part of a "zero tolerance" ban on selling sugar products on campus. New York Gov. David Paterson has proposed an 18 percent tax on sugary sodas and juice drinks, and state officials have not ruled out additional taxes on cheeseburgers and other foods deemed unhealthy.

These ominous trends will only accelerate if the US adopts universal healthcare.

Just as universal healthcare will further fuel the nanny state, the nanny state mind-set helps fuel the drive toward universal healthcare. Individuals aren't regarded as competent to decide how to manage their lives and their health. So the government provides "cradle to grave" coverage of their healthcare.

Nanny state regulations and universal healthcare thus feed a vicious cycle of increasing government control over individuals. Both undermine individual responsibility and habituate citizens to ever-worsening erosions of their individual rights. Both promote dependence on government. Both undermine the virtues of independence and rationality. Both jeopardize the very foundations of a free society.

The American Founding Fathers who fought and died for our freedoms would be appalled to know their descendants were allowing the government to dictate what they could eat and drink. The Founders correctly understood that the proper role of government is to protect individual rights and otherwise leave men free to live – not tell us how many eggs we should eat.

If we still value our freedoms, we must reject both the nanny state and universal healthcare. Otherwise, it won't be long before the "Waistline Police" come knocking on our doors.

Now you know why the Marxists want National Health care, control of the people. They spent a lot of time lying about it's values and many many fools bought into it. Seniors were really played with the fear mongering but you bet your boots that they will be the first cut out of coverage once we find we can't pay for this. Then "Self-Inflicted" things, like some types of obesity will lose coverage. (Not AIDS, risky sex and I.V. drug use are not the fault of those who partake in those things) Watch them use Socialised Medicine to out law guns. I can't wait to hear the lies that will be told about thousands of children being killed every year in the U.S. by gun accidents. Lies, all lies and soooooo many of you fools continue to fall for it. Why don't you ever ask hard questions? Like where these goobers in office come up with some of these silly stats? Why don't you look at the cost of "Free" medical care across the globe. How it is rationed. Higher un-employment, what we see here now is more that norm in some European countries. If you give up control you give up freedom. The days of you being told when to jump and how high are just around the corner. Thanks to all you Osama Obama supporters. What a shame I will be forced at gun point to play with you. I really don't want to. Layoutshooter

It could be easily argued that this practice is already being imposed upon us by our American insurance industry. Try getting health insurance from one of these companies if you're over 50 and overweight - and don't even bother if you've been diagnosed with high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Wonder what percentage of our population over 50 has this problem? Consider the fact that Lipitor (cholesterol medication) is the #1 selling prescription drug in the world. Doctors seem to be writing scripts for blood pressure and cholesterol medication for almost everybody that crosses their threshold.

Of course the counter-argument is that some companies will, under certain conditions, offer insurance to people with these circumstances for an exhorbatantly high premium coupled with a sky-high deductable. As it stands now, the only way to get reasonably priced health insurance is through a group plan from an employer.

Of course the US govt. controlled health insurance would probably be far worse than what we have available today. It's just a shame that government meddling with the health care system has gotten us in this shape to begin with.

Approxamatly 30% of the cost of health care now is due to government regs. A large percentage is lawsuits, most are silly. The Dumbecrats fight tort reform but do you really believe that you will be allowed to sue the government once they take control? I know when I ran amublance a HUGE part of our fee was to cover liabilty insurance on the Ambulance Club itself and the all volunteer crews that manned it. We had to carry a MINIMUM of $5 million PER CREW MEMBER. The American people wanted to use the insurance companies for thier own cash cow, now you pay for it. Check out how much a family doctor pays in malpractice insurance. Then look a what a OBG/YN pays. Then look at the shortage fo OB doctors and you know why. Layoutshooter

On top of the govt regulations and the frivilous malpractive lawsuits, we've got the cost of supporting all the medical care of illegal aliens, the welfare cases, and the others who don't have insurance but are entitled by the govt to medical care anyway. Maybe one good thing about this recession is that it will force a lot of these illegal Mexicans and their anchor babies back into Mexico, thus relieving that part of the strain on our health care system.

It's all the government's fault and that silly Food Pyramid that they brainwashed into believing. It is a Food Pyramid that causes Type II Diabetes. It's a Pyramid that is loaded, loaded, loaded with grains and other starches, many of which have been processed to remove the very substances that allow out bodies to properly digest and assimilate the nutrients. Indeed, most are so highly processed that artificial nutrients and vitamins must be added back into them to keep us from staving to death while we're eating it. In 2005 they finally changed to reflect at least a slightly healthier diet.

Who developed and pushed the Food Pyramid down our throats? Why, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, of course! Because, hey, who knows more about nutrition than the agency that deals with agricultural commerce.

in 1990 the government seized the "mustang ranch", they eventually auctioned it off, but the funny part is that legand has it the government tried to run the place until the auction, they lost money.........So we are to expect a group that can't make money sell sex and booze to do a good job running our health care system....

* and for what it is worth, and to save turtle the time of the research and the time to correct me, i know its not true.. but it sure has been a good story for alot of years....

Milton Freidman once said that if the US Govt was put in charge of the Sahara Desert, within six months there would be a shortage of sand. You can bet your heart monitor there will be a shortage of doctors if they get control of the health system.
