There really is guilt on both sides, but let's not forget that Obama extended the Bush tax cuts in addition to running up the national debt like no other POTUS in history. The Great Recession can not be blamed solely on Bush because the root causes for the sub-prime lending disaster were put in place well before he took office. The next big problem we face is when interest rates finally get back to normal levels after 8 years of being held artificially low. Imagine what the interest payments on our national debt will be if the Prime rate - currently 3.5% - is allowed to rise to the level it was when Obama took office: 6.5%, to say nothing of what might happen if it rises to the levels of the Clinton years, averaging 8 to 9%. For those youngsters that think it can't happen, take a look at the following link documenting the Prime's history. We haven't seen 3.5% since 1958. Of course we don't even want to think about the late '70s and early '80s. It's the economy, stupid!

Prime Interest Rate History

This is very true. Bush also put in place items to block the crazy investments by banks to avoid the recession and democrats in congress blocked them. People forget that kind of stuff. Same with extending temporary tax cuts. Obama blames his own deficits on Bush yet extends those very programs racking up more debt. It is laughable actually. And that isn't even touching all the social spending and Ocare costs. The other issue when comparing is that peoples wages are essentially flat and as the cost of living and higher interest rates enter the picture, it will continue to be a drag on the economy.

Another red herring Obama and the Dems like to shout about is the number of jobs being created. Problem is, the majority of these are "hamburger flipper" jobs that they used to ridicule when Bush was in office; part time, low paying jobs with no benefits - mostly in retail or service industries. Also consider the number of people - young and old alike - that now need TWO of these jobs to make ends meet. There's a reason that the U-6 unemployment figures still show over 94 million able bodied Americans out of work. It also doesn't help that ObamaCare mandates that anyone working 30 or more hours per week has to be given health care benefits that many small businesses can't afford.

One thing Trump does understand is economics and business. I'm surprised he's not putting more emphasis on the fake unemployment numbers and the shrinkage of the average household income over the past 8 years, and what he would do to improve our standard of living.

My thinking on Trump with regards to the economy is that he waiting for the field to get smaller. Since he is sitting on top in most polls, I don't think he will put a plan out for awhile until he has to.

Trump never went bankrupt himself. Four of his corporations, out of the hundred plus he owns, or has owned, went bankrupt either when he owned them or after he sold them. That's not a bad ratio at all in corporate America... in fact, it's unusually good!

Wasn't there something at one time if he had gone bankrupt he would have taken a bunch of banks with him so they had no outher choice but to give him more money

Let's not forget about research and development of products and services not yet in existence. That takes money for capitol investment here in the US instead of going overseas or being sucked up by the US govt in taxes. Jobs are created when businesses evolve and grow. Otherwise, buggy whips would still be in high demand.

Research and development? What isn't financed by the feds [NASA, CDC, etc] is frequently outsourced these days. What is still done is often financed by investors, as that's what they exist for [supposedly].
Jobs may be created strictly because a business grows and/or expands, but if that growth & expansion isn't based on demand for their product/service, the jobs are the result of magical thinking. Companies that grow because it's the next step in the corporate progression [absent sales to support it] go bankrupt all the time.
Demand creates jobs, period.

Not always sometimes projections, wishful thinking, government create jobs regardless of demand. Ie: Battery operated cars, wind mills, solar panels, pet rocks.

In our history millions of jobs have been created when there was very little demand for something. Bright minds felt if they could create something useful people would buy it. It isn't now and never has been solely demand that creates jobs.

No to mention countless union contracts that mandate certain levels and classes of employment regardless of demand.

What about when the government starts to compete with the private sector, driving entire industries out of business, which includes the owners, and employees. This has happened in commercial surety, something I am intimately aware of. Further, a demand with out investment or the financial means available to develop the product in the first place, stifles growth. Venture capital has been extremely difficult to obtain for a long while.
