It is a leak, not a spill. It is not yet the biggest ever in the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf will recover as it did last time. Things will suck for a fairly long time in people years and an very short time for nature.

What we need to do now is get the thing stopped. Figure out what went wrong so we can avoid that same mistake(s) in the future and get on with life. I cannot wait to see just how much this is going to cost us and how much of that will be shear waste and new government give away programs. New and better ways to put more on the dole for life. I see it coming now. :(

All this government needs is an excuse and the spending starts again.

What went wrong is we weren't drilling in ANWR and in shallow water where things can be controlled. We were listening to the FOOLS who said no to everything except deep water drilling, the riskiest of all options. What went wrong is we weren't building new nuclear facilities, the cleanest and safest of all power sources. What went wrong was decades of environmental fools, liberal fools and fool politicians.

All correct. We also have to learn how to drill in the deep water as well. It can and will be done. At least if we can get rid of the goofys that are running the country right now.

The difference between an oil leak and an oil spill, especially at this scale, is semantics at best. A leak is when something unintentionally escapes through a hole or crack or similar, where the majority of the oil is still held captive. A spill is when something is unintentionally allowed run or fall freely from its container.

If you've got fuel dripping from a fuel line, that's a fuel leak. If you've got fuel gushing from a 3-inch gash in your fuel tank, that's a fuel spill. What we have down in the Gulf is a uncontrolled hemorrhage in the planet, not all that different from a blood-gushing hole in a jugular vein. I wouldn't call that a leak.

Yeah, it is all about semantics, but what else do we have to do? It will be stopped, everything will return to normal, or what passes for normal these days, in a while. Oil will continue to "leak" into the Gulf from all the natural leaks just as it always has. There is a lot of oil under the Gulf.

If we drill in ANWR and all the other places we should drill and if we put windfarms outside dead Ted's window where they should be put, and if we build all the nuclear we should be building, we won't need to deep water drill for decades and maybe not for a century. By then they'll be much better equipped to do it. It's the FOOLS who are causing the problems now.

The difference between an oil spill and an oil leak is semantics and perception. The term leak implies a small event, easily fixed. The term spill is more accurate in defining a large event not easily contained. I see you are having great difficulty making that distinction, Greg. Embrace reality. What is happening with the Deepwater Horizon saga is way beyond a mere leak.

Considering the volume of oil being discharged into the ocean from a highly pressurized pocket under the earth's crust, I'd say we could call it an eruption.

NO aristotle, I'm having problems with stupid people who keep asking if kitty litter will help clean it up and it spilled over here.
