WASHINGTON — Under fire from both right and left, the Republican National Committee is investigating how and why it spent nearly $2,000 for "meals" at a bondage-themed strip club in West Hollywood featuring topless dancers simulating lesbian sex.

The party confirmed Monday that it reimbursed a California consultant for $1,946 spent at Voyeur, a high-end bar/lounge that's described on one Web site as "classic slutty" where "you might not be completely shocked at the almost naked women writhing on each other, but you will undoubtedly be in awe."

"It was obviously improper for more than one reason," said party spokesman Doug Heye . "It was not a sanctioned RNC activity. It was improper because of the venue."

He said the party will get its money back from Erik Brown , the president of Orange County -based Dynamic Marketing Inc. , who submitted the bill for reimbursement.

Brown, who couldn't be reached for comment, has worked for Republicans including California gubernatorial candidate Steve Poizner . His firm also maintains an office in Washington .

Brown socialized in the past with Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele , once messaging via his Twitter account that he was "enjoying the football game with RNC Chairman Michael Steele . (Eagles vs. Redskins at FedEx Field )."

RNC aides said that Steele was not present at the strip club.

"Chairman Steele was not at Voyeur West Hollywood. He had no knowledge of the expenditure, nor does he find the use of committee funds at such a location acceptable," Heye said in a statement, adding that Steele, upon finding out about it on Monday, "demanded the committee get to the bottom of this matter immediately."

Democrats pounced on the report, first revealed by the Web site DailyCaller.com, eagerly distributing media accounts of the brouhaha round the country.

Conservatives questioned it as well, led by the group Concerned Women for America.

"Did they really agree to reimburse nearly $2,000 for a bondage-themed night club?" asked the group's chief executive, Penny Nance . "Why would a staffer believe that this is acceptable, and has this kind of thing been approved in the past?"

The strip club costs were among several travel expenses that were listed in the RNC's most recent report to the Federal Election Commission and that suggested a high-flying lifestyle for party officials.

Among February expenses reported to the FEC: $17,514 for private jets; $12,691 on limos; $19,016.63 at the W hotel in downtown Washington ; $9,099 at the Beverly Hills Hotel in California ; and $6,596 at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire nearby.

The Daily Caller also reported that Steele discussed having the party buy a private jet, or a share of a private jet, for his personal use.

Steele has been the subject of complaints in the past about spending the party's money. Soon after he won the chairmanship in a contested election, the committee passed a resolution requiring that any contract for more than $1,000 be subjected to competitive bidding and that checks be signed by at least two officers of the party.

The March 20 report to the FEC showed that the Republican National Committee had $9.5 million in cash on hand.

The Democratic National Committee had $425,000 in cash.

Someone brought this up on another site, so I had to reply here as well.

We don't elect the RNC, so how does this affect the tax payer? Why is this any of our business? If they take some fat-cat donor to the strip club, so what? This story is meant to drum up bad feelings toward the Republicans. What about the tax payer money spent on a private jet for "stretch job" Pelosi? Or the continual car leases by Charlie Rangel?

I'm not defending the RNC, other than they're predominately a donor-based entity. If the donors find this appalling, so be it. But I wouldn't give them a nickel anyways. If I do find it in my heart to give, it's to individuals.

I can promise you the other side has done some things that would get the same wow factor if you want to call it that. I am defending the RNC. You know why? Because most of the people slingling mud about this have been in a strip club, if not worse, if you catch my drift. It's just a common case of the pot calling the kettle black.

You know if old Teddy was alive he would be the main one raising cain, and I think anyone who knew about him or his family's history knows he would have no room to talk. Both sides are just as bad. The Dems. just had a guy resign because he was sexually harassing male staffers. Seems they might want to look in the mirror and take care of their own grass. Which the last I heard they let him slide out because he was planning on voting against Obamacare.

Long story short, there will always be and always has been controversy on both sides.

As TH said, we don't elect them, and they don't use tax dollars....Businessmen from the grocery rep to the corner market to suppliers to GM and GM excutives all go to thee places. no different then taking someone golfing.....

you want to see the "other" side, take a trip to the well know strip club out by detroit metro...the michigan members will know of it....the detroit dems are in there all the time.....when i sold commerical air compresors, i took Ford purchasers there all the time...he knew the gov people well....

ahhhh....you do know there are conservative dems also, they call them "blu-dog" ....just as there are liberal repubs , they are called Rino's...., bushs spending habits that were more inline with the libs then the conervatives comes to mind......i even know some liberal anarchist......

oh and i do believe it has appeared here that none of them are worth a tinkers-azz..... but the biggest thing to come from that article is as TH said, they are not "elected office holders", they are private citizens....and they have no "tax dollars"....only donations.....oh and i'd think it was, "business as normal".....

Actually it did say something about a show with women portraying lesbian relations.

The only reason I defended the RNC is because I'm tired of seeing one side act as though they are so much better than the other. They are both constantly caught up in scandal.

Hahahaha, yea, its just the Demos that what to take over the country, take away all your rights, dang pinkos, lmaoooooooooo

Yeah, the use of force to give us the "freedom" of government controlled health care is such a great idea!! Glad to hear that the 10th amendment and the Bill of Rights means so little to so many! I have another great idea, head down to anyone of the hundreds of our veterans cemetarys and spit on the graves of those who died to protect your freedoms. Too bad they did not know that we would willingly give them up, they would not have died to protect them. Too bad you skipped or was never taught history or civics in school.

Okee Dokee, Sorry, I am very touchy about being forced to give up my Rights under the Bill of Rights.

You are wrong on one thing, this is the FIRST time that the Federal Government is using force to make a free citizen purchase a product that they do not wish to purchase.

Just wait, the real horrors of this bill have yet to come out. It give massive new powers to the closest thing we have to the Gestapo in this country, the IRS. That is just ONE of the reasons that they are buying shotguns. You are just beginning to see what "true socialism" is like. It will not be pretty. Many will die due to government enforcement of this Bill. Many will be imprisoned. This is the beginning of the end of freedom.

Your grandchildren will be condemned to being slaves of the STATE if this terror is not stopped.

I dont think its the first time, social security and medicare come to mind, and there are laws to make you pay them and enforcement.

I know you are touchy about those but good for you.

Oilerman...one question:

How can you as an American, agree to being forced to buy Health Care?

I dont agree with the force part OVM, i dont pretend to even begin to know how to make health care for everyone work, I just believe that everyone should have access to health care and the present system just doesnt work. You can make the insurance companies cover pre-existing conditons and people not paying for a policy till they get sick, that wont work

Ahhhh wrong again....you don't pay for SS or Medicare or even Medicaid if you ...are you ready, here it is ... DON'T WORK....it is paid from you income at work.....a stay at home mom, dose not pay it....

With barry care, just being "born" in the USA requires the purchase of health insurance.....or pay a fine and or go to jail......

You are wrong when you say that the government forces people to Buy SS and medicare....My mother never paid a dime into those programs...as with all people that don't work.....and even those that work can get around it, if you work the system!!!!

So you are wrong in what you said, before your clarification..

barrycare makes every person born in this country purcahse a product...no one is exempt...just to be born here you now are under the forced government mandate t buy health insurance...under the force of penalty from the fed gov....and you are just fine with that...as was said, you might as well spit on the graves of the soldiers that died for your freedom, since you are so willing to just give them up....
