Rooting for The Apocalypse

Folks living in cities of despair need to start voting with their feet. MOVE. Get away from the urban ghettoes to places where middle class values and a strong work ethic still prevail. Mass migration such as "white flight" from inner cities happened over the last three or four decades. It's time for another mass migration away from urban plight, regardless of ethnicity. Let all people of goodwill search for upward mobility in an environment friendly to work and family. Just move... one man, one woman, one family at a time.

The problem is.. they do move. But they do NOT leave the mindset that built the government they fled from.

They take it with um. They start demanding the same services that bankrupted the city/state they left.

You have to change their mind set, the way they think.. Or the problem just spreads like a plague. It's starting to happen in southern states already.

MI is starting to swing back the other way. Why? The hand out class has left, much of the inner-city that tends to support the liberal mindset has left. They have moved to OH (now turning blue) and other states near by.

Not disagreeing with you. Yes, they made their beds to a point. Detroit just has nothing to offer, and hasn't for a long time. No wonder they're being left in the dust. I can't help but feel sorry for them, and others who have lost hope. The depression begets depression, and vice versa.

People choose to lose hope. It is a state of mind. Detroit is SO bad now that there is massive OPPORTUNITY there. I would LOVE to have title to every thing that is within the city limits. It would not take long to make it the greatest place on the planet to live, work and play.

How to start? Gut the city government. Step two, shut of the "Freebie Faucet". Step three, bring in 10,000 bulldozers.

I would agree that a person's mindset is the biggest obstacle to success. If one adopts the psychology of victimhood, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Start believing you cannot do something, even without trying, and sure enough it doesn't get done.

As to whether moving to a better locale is unrealistic... I am not placing a lot of credence in this excuse. For many, many individuals and families living in squalor or economic hopelessness, moving may be the only solution to a better life. Of course, some families are mired down by mortgaqes in a city where homes go unsold. Being hostage to an unmarketable home or mortgage would be a cruel fate.

Moving ones family today is nothing compared to what early settlers endured. For many of us, our ancestors came to America by crossing a vast ocean aboard rickety wooden ships. Such travel was dangerous and not every ship reached our shores. Many sank. Still, families sought to come. They placed everything on the line to get here. America offered unlimited hope and opportunity.

It took weeks to cross the ocean. The outcome was uncertain. Today, we can move an entire family 1,000 miles by rental truck in two days.

I think you underestimate the obstacles to your abra-cadabra solution. There are around 900,000 obstacles in that city that you have to convince that Mr Whitey has their best interests at heart. You have to find some way to erase generations of Jesse Jackson, Coleman Young, LBJ, Bill Clinton, and Obama mindsets. You're not talking about a smart society there. Being a product of inner city public education, you're more likely get a stir out of them by announcing a sale on Jordon hightops.

If they choose to be victims then they are.

Throughout history one group has sought to enslave another. The 'power group' often denied or restricted education to advance their control. They 'taught' the controlled that thwy were 'second class', unable to rise above their station in life. Through out history man has over come this. Nothing new under the sun. Man can do what man chooses to do. NO one said it is easy, but then again, accomplishing good things seldom is.

Where?

Michigan has a long way to go just to get rid of this attitude that we are special. No jobs, and if one includes the "boom" in auto related jobs, take a seriously close look at how these jobs are being created and how they are not going to be there long.

We have elected Jenny II and he wants to raise taxes and fees, which is not going to solve any problems but compound them. If you noticed, our taxes have not gone down with the price of housing, which maybe the cities need to cut services and the education system needs some gutting instead of more money into a failing system.
