Obama wants to impose a tax on "windfall profits" made by greedy oil companies. What exactly is a "windfall profit"? I thought wind was good and wind was green. Wind makes the turbines spin. So I have seen.

It's about time we up the tax on these greedy pigs. Just because they control a commodity we all need, they think they can keep increasing the price. They think they have us over a barrel. Well they're wrong!

After the government collects the taxes the money will be uh, the money will be... given back to the poor and middle class. Yeah that's it. the poor and middle class.

Next up will be taxes on "windfall profits" made by gas and electric utilities. Although heavily regulated now, nothing short of complete government control will put an end to their greed. Coming soon; affordable natural gas and electricity for for the masses.

When Team Obama/Clinton wins a second term, they will set their sights on the transportation industry. Especially the expedite market. Talk about price gouging! You wouldn't believe the rates these companies charge for hauling freight. 3 to 10 times higher than an LTL carrier would charge. Just because a customer needs a part or product pronto they are at the mercy of the Expedite Cartel and their obscene rates.

So be warned Panther, FedEx CC, Express I and the rest of you members of big expedite. Team Obama/Clinton will tax your "windfall profits" to the point that you will wish you never were incorporated!

I don't know Tallcal, I met a lot of kids who were rather clear that they don't like a lot of types of people because of the PC thing being shoved down their throat. AND a lot of these kids want to vote for Obama because they want to make history. Little do they know that the history they are trying to make will not be easy for them in the long run.

Like the incident in Detriot, there are others no doubt... all to set him up to be someone he isn't. Just like Rosser Reeve during the Eisenhower campaign of 1952, Obama's handlers are making sure that he has a positive image at any cost. Unlike McCain who seems to be the opposite (and most repubs seem to be like this), McCain does not show the same 'staging' that the Dems have been doing. Every election it gets better and better on what is done to make the dems candidates a star, just like the hollywood types.

But we will see more of this form of discirmination in the near future, more of the make sure that there are only this or that type of demographics sits in the audience and where to make things more effective. Maybe we will hear that Obama's handlers used the Col. Parker approach to audience participation (which was a copy of Sinatra's bobby sox's way drumming up interesting in him) - you know the screaming 'fans' who sometimes faint who are hired just to do that.

The other thing, not to change the subject but Huckster there said that the repubs need to pretty much run a clean campaign. I don't know about you guys but I think that McCain and the repubs need to grow a couple and pull out all the stops. Maybe do a Lyndon Johnson on some of Obama's people, or just be plain down right dirty because if they don't, then they don't want to win.

Cal, I know a lot of young people starting with my 2 daughters and their husbands. Add a number of their friends and classmates at the universities. Thankfully that group of young people isn't so foolish as the ones you reference. The original idea behind the Electorate was that smaller states did not want to be totally overridden by larger, very populated states. At the same time, they couldn't be made equal. So a compromise was developed.

The number of electorates in each state was made up of the number of representatives (population) plus the number of senators (equal footing between states). What that does is give the heavier weight to the more populated states (CA, NY), but also gives credence to the less populated states. For instance, WY has one representative, as compared to CA's 53. In a population based election, WY would be at a HUGE disadvantage, when electing our president. But since equal footing (senators) also adds into the equation, WY now has 3, and CA 55. The difference is still huge, but the ratio of power is now reduced from 53:1 to 18.3:1.

This also negates the power one state can have if 90%+ percent votes a certain way. A simple majority is all it takes to win all of a state's electorates (with the exception of Maine and Nebraska, who splits their votes among their Congressional districts). Thus, you will have times where a person might gain a majority in population (popular vote), but lose the electorate. All that means is Gore got a vastly higher popular vote in states like CA and NY; but Bush eeked out a popular vote victory in multiple states like FL.

2000 wasn't the first time it happened. The elections of 1876 and 1888 also ended with the loser of the popular vote winning the election. So anyone thinking the Electoral College was a ploy to give Bush the White House, should look up those two elections and educate themselves.

In 1876, there were FOUR states where the popular vote was very close (again, FL was one of them). There were also allegations of fraud (likely, but no proof).

Yawn this is getting boring…..

You know it don’t matter, because some people just don’t get what politics are all about or this country for that matter. Just like the ones who think that the only way to understand the military, operations or any thing else is to be in it.

Now bear with me here, it seems that if we don’t keep our troops involved with things outside the country, they will not be able to fight in the long run under different conditions. This does not come from my dribbling make believe mind but someone who is rather well educated and teaches at Carlisle. A few will understand what I’m saying, the ones who don’t – go figure it out. (and a few know what happens at Carlisle.)

The proof of this comes from the adjustments we made with the first gulf war, the time in between and the invasion of Iraq. Within these three events, we failed to anticipate a lot of the issues that came up and addressed each one to fix the problems. Remember the last time we fought in the desert was in 1943. So there is a real valid reason we involve ourselves with things overseas.

The rather sad thing is with this is that we have a system where the military is under the control of the people, the public and they operate with only one purpose, to defend our country – not to provide aid to Burma, not to support the UN but to defend us, the people the country. Being in Iraq is doing just that, it is a needed presents and stabilizing force with a lot of complicated issues which most DO NOT want to understand or care to or can. Regardless who says otherwise, there is a great big picture that is involved with Iraq and there is more to it than just Oil, freedom and spending our money. The same goes for the people who think that we should only have the troops here, within our borders to do the work that we need them to do, which is nothing. They don’t belong here as a police force or as a border guards because that is what we the people made that decision when we founded the country.

With that, if we want to have all the troops home, we have a choice; we can return to the 1920’s troop reduction policies to maintain only a marginal defensive force or to be able to respond to threats by having troops stationed around the world with an offensive force?

For me, I want to have my country’s presents in the place they are in.

C'mon, Jay! I don't know how many times I've brought this up. We bought a Honda van. Not only is it the best made van out there, but it is 70% American/Canadian made! Not Ford, GM, or Chrysler...
