Matter of perspective

I'm hanging out in Boston this weekend with a load delivering tomorrow morning. I just got done touring the Constitution and that WWII ship they have next to it. On the WWII ship there was an area where you could see an officer's cabin. It wasn't a very big room to say the least, but it had a small bunk about the size of the mattress I have in my sleeper and then there was a small writing desk and a wardrobe to keep his clothes in. It was a rather tidy little space and I was thinking to myself, "I'd love to have a sleeper like that." While I was thinking that I heard someone else say, "How could someone sleep in such a small space?" I replied, "Oh, I think you could get used to it. It doesn't look that bad." She looked at me like I had two heads. I guess it all depends on your perspective.

I took a tour of the Constitution when my brother lived nearby, one block south of the Bunker Hill monument. I asked why the ceilings were so low. The active Navy tour guide said because they had a height requirement. They only took short guys so they would not have to build as high.

I went to the Battleship Texas yesterday for a special ham radio operator day. One cabin is exactly as the lieutenant left it at the end of WW2. It has a shelf of books, mostly Reader's Digest condensed books it looked like, as well as other stuff. Up until a few years ago he came out every year and spent the night in his cabin on the anniversary of being mustered out.

Agree with Charles on the difference perspective makes - I took my cargo van out for a spin the other day, and was amazed that I used to be quite comfortable, sleeping on the tiny bunk, lol.
Leo: I toured the Battleship Texas, too, and they didn't tell me that neat story - I would have enjoyed it. Pretty cool, that he was allowed to sleep in his old bunk, I think.

I did the Texas on December 7. That was quite an experience. Today was interesting going on the Constitution and then a more modern ship. You could see the differences, but also quite a few similarities.

Last time I went to the Battleship was when I was in elementary. I grew up in LaPorte, Tx right by there so our school took field trips there. Pretty neat as a kid. Would be much more interesting now though.

There are a number of ships that you can tour if you are into it. Mobile Al Buffalo ny Muskogee Ok Little Rock Ar New Bedford Ma New London CT just to name a few Little Rock New London and Buffalo and Muskogee Ok all have subs

Almost forgot and for the adventurous there is the Sherman a civil war blockade runner that is 53 feet down off of the coast of NC and the Orsikany sitting in 200 feet off of FL just to name a few Both are great dives.

park in stadium parking lot and tour
the COD submarine and then go to
the Rok n Roll museum.
