Mon Cheri... on purely scientific grounds, we as a species have only two biological imperatives: eat and reproduce, solely to ensure survival of the species.
We need to breathe, too - you left that out.
If some prefer to participate in unnatural acts, no skin off my nose.
Then why mention them? And who gets to define "natural"? As I mentioned, my mother, (among others) thinks that I'm unnatural, because I enjoy driving a truck! Should I follow my own mind, or someone else's ideas of what's natural?
They are choosing to remove themselves from the gene pool. That's pretty close to poetic justice.
I don't believe that choice has anything to do with it, and science is proving that to be true. BTW: is it 'poetic justice' when a heterosexual couple cannot reproduce?
I never invoked religion in my response to tallcal.
No, you didn't - but it was right there, in your words, "perverse unnatural lifestyles" (or whatever words you used), clear as day.
Perhaps, those with a troubled conscience might jump to that conclusion.
If you're referring to me, my conscience is quite clear, I assure you. I follow my own moral code, and am pretty content with who I am, what I have done, and am doing now - I like myself, now.
(I didn't always, when I let others define who I 'ought' to be)
Mischief-makers always resent conforming to societal norms.
Well, all I can say to that is that we're fortunate to have 'mischief makers', like, Galileo, Patrick Henry, Abraham Lincoln.....I think we need more of them!
Even though you and I may disagree, I respect your right to hold your own views and express them.
Thanks - it's mutual. Along with the right to challenge statements, yes?
The shooter in Knoxville was not necessarily mentally ill. Most definitely, he was Evil. Will you concede Evil exists independently of mental illness?
I don't know what you mean by 'evil', exactly (it is a very subjective term - but if you are capitalizing it because you think of it as an actual entity, then no, I won't concede that.) I have certainly felt like killing someone, but would not do it, (I think), because it goes against my moral beliefs. Sociopaths have no such restraints, and are therefore mentally ill. Good mental health requires a regard for others, as well as for ones self, because "No man is an island", truly. We are interdependent, and must coexist, to survive.
I harbor no ill will. But there is a wide chasm between tolerance and acceptance. Acceptance is a bridge too far.
