Iranian protests continue to build

Wonder where these protests will lead? They seem to grow larger each day. Will there be a severe crackdown as in Tianimen Square some twenty years ago? Or, will something positive(from the Western perspective) emerge?

The revolt will be put down, many will be killed, and an even tighter grip will constrict the ppl. Maybe Israel will help with a revolution, cause we certainly won't.

Now seriously , Israel?

But we have helped them, you know that T-hawk. It is our technology and our progress in the Middle East that has helped them, they are neither blind or dumb. Our progress outside of the Palistininian issue is really pushing success throughout the middle east. They seen what we did in Iraq and now Afghanistan.

For the tallcal/doug types;

Guess what was opened today in Afghanistan?

A national park.

Guess who is starting to lead in tourism in a Middle East Arab country?

Iraq.

Neither of these are talked about in the press, even the international press but they are in fact... facts...

The Mullas and the supreme leader have agreed to meet with the candidates, it will lead to a compromise and a settlement of the issue but it won't end. The people will be suppressed to a point, they already have been but as one Iranian said to me, the people tolerate their government and after 3000 years as a nation, they can change it if there is a real need. But I think we did a lot there through Iraq - the evidence is very VERY clear, when the people are holding up signs in English and the subject is VOTES, it isn't because of our democratic party did much other than block our efforts and many Iranians here don't trust Obama becuase he lacks both experience and strength.

Only serious insomuch that they'd be more likely to help than an Obama-led military.

I've said basically what you have, Greg. Bush's invasion of Iraq was a bigger deal than the wmds. Iraq is in the middle of the Mid East. Democracy flourishing there will spread its seed across open borders like wild fire. It will be many years, but if things succeed in Iraq, the rest of the Mid East will eventually be a group of democratic countries.

"But there were no WMDs! Bush lied and ppl died!"

SHADDUP!!! There are bigger things in this world than your poor widdle hurt feewings. Now go smoke a joint and turn on Oprah.

The unrest is ratcheting up in Iran. Some news analysts are suggesting Iran is on the cusp of a second revolution. After watching some of the video depicting massive protests in Tehran, I doubt the Supreme Leader can afford to wait much longer before ordering a severe crackdown.

Is this a historic moment in the Middle East, or will this cry for more freedom be squelched by bullets, batons and tanks?

Mousavi has really put himself in peril. Challenging the Establishment there could lead him to the gallows, literally.

Did you ever think that he was part of a setup to remove the president?

I know it may not make sense but the thing is, he would not be walking around, getting the people worked up if there wasn't some 'approval' from the supreme leader?

News reports say Mousavi is not "walking around." From what I can gather, he is more or less under house arrest. He is not allowed to make phone calls or approach a microphone in public. His immediate future is tenuous at best.

I believe the Iraq war has very little to do with this call for change in Iran. The true reason as we all know is Obama on the world stage and the people there now want change also.

No Doug, you are wrong. Since Obama was elected the violence in Iraq is skyrocketing. You need to go back into history, to about 1940 to even begin to understand what is going on. Obama's weakness is holding up things in Iran. I would be willing to venture a VERY educated more than a guess that the U.S. was "stoking" the fires in Iran for the last 6 years. You can bet your truck on that. NOW, I would be willing to bet that we have drastically slowed down that effort. In reality, it is not really a bet, you can bank on it.

Where's the middle East Expert parts? or the writing for a living parts? Or the Dick Cheney on the phone parts?

Doug, when you worked at NSA in the sections I worked in you had to really DO things!!! I spent my career putting myself in "hot seats" so I was always busy. Most of my middles east work was in a little room surrounded by equipment that you would NOT understand. My writing was tech writting, fielding requirements for two systems, one ground based the other was not. Talked with Cheney during the Gulf War, I was in another little room surrounded by equipment that you would NOT understand. My last job with them I was working counter-terrorism, again, in a little room with NO windows surrounded by equipment you would NOT understand.

You see Doug, NSA was a career. I did all I could to insure that I did really hard stuff, I pushed myself to the limit. I accomplished a lot. I am sorry that you know so little about the Agency, if you knew more you might have a little clue as to what I might have done. Read a book called the "Puzzle Palace". It was sort of a tell all written by a mal-content about NSA but there is a lot of good info in it.

In reality, even if I COULD go into greater detail the chances are you would only understand the surface. You really have no backround to give you any insight. NOT a put down, you could not have it unless you were there.

I cannot go into a lot of detail, some of it is still classified.

I did leave off all of my hunting and fishing guide work and my charter boat work and a whole lot of little stuff.

OH YEA, I was also a fly fishing instructor in England and built a trout pond on the base there and ........... and .........

I had a REAL life!!!

That is a statement that ranks up there with some of Phil's.

Well.... it seems to me, that Doug is living in Liberal La La land again... so sad. I think he has been getting his education from the same huffington post entries that were written by the same spaced out writers of the Bush hate crowd. Maybe one of them hollywood experts who think that 9/11 was done by some space creature.

Doug if you want to believe what you believe, go right ahead because many of the people populating the Detroit area who just happen to be of Arab descent seem to think otherwise, I think they outweigh you in both experience and knowledge of the situation, culture and history. It is so hilarious that many of them don't trust Obama to do the right thing and even though you may think that your messiah will bring change and peace to the Middle East, they don't and they count.

If you want to ask my sources, just take your butt into Dearborn, Detroit or Hamtramck any time but don't look too suburban or white. Sit down in some of the cafes or restaurants and chum around with them to find out what is really going on.
