Bambam, don't want to sound negative but I hope you're able to get that ac going right in the international. Ours hasn't been right from day one...........3 1/2 years and thousands of dollars later....it still is not right and regularly puts us out of service for repairs.

PS, if by chance they get it right, please let us know where you're having your work done.

The first expediter truck we were in was an International...we had trouble with the A/C too. They finally fixed it, but it was after quite a few days and a few thouseand dollars. Lucky for us, it was our owner that had the bill. I don't believe he has that truck any more.
I hope that what ever is wrong, is easily fixed.

Bambam,
I wish you the best of luck, but I am wondering (and maybe a few other are too) with all this downtime, are you being compensated for it?

Thawk, you name it, it's done it. We've replaced just about every part involved in the thing. Right now they can't get it to cool down as low as it should and then it stops completely and check ac light comes on. We stop and reset it, thank God for good mechanics that gave us the codes, sometimes it's only good for 40 miles, sometimes 2 or 3 days.

There's a small filter in line with the hoses. Either take it off or have them. See if there are any metal shavings in it. If so, do a search on black death in the truck forum. I'm just speculating, but you replacing every part in the system seems to be saying that might be your prob.

Well sorry to hear that.

I think that maybe bringing the truck to an A/C specialist is the really needed, not one of these mechanics who just works on the A/C. A good one will charge you a lot more but fix the problem.

Good luck

dieseldiva,
T-Hawk is right about the junk that accumulates in the lines.

I would say that there is not much that needs to be fixed on any a/c unit. It really is a compressor, a accumulator, a dryer, two heat exchange units and some sort of valve to release the pressure - not rocket sceince.

When ever the system is brought down and opened up, the thing that needs to be replaced is the dryer always. What T-Hawk mentioned is the crude that comes most of the time from a compressor failure, and many times the idiots who work on the system just replace the Orifice tube (which does not wear but gets plugs), forget to flush the lines and does not replace the compressor. So it is an never ending cycle. My truck has an expansion valve in place of an O-tube but my van has an O-tube and I have issues with the van in the past.
