Harry Reid’s shamnesty stand: Senate Bill 9 will tear down the border “wall”

By Michelle Malkin • January 8, 2009 11:08 PM

Harry Reid has filed S. 9, the Democrats’ new shamnesty bill. Not much difference in principle between Reid’s bill and McCain-Kennedy-Bush. Disingenuous lip service to immigration enforcement? Check. Path to legalization? Check.
There are a few new nuggets — most notably, open hostility to the Fence in Name Only on our southern border. Quoting from the bill:

Quote:
And I believe we would be wise to reconsider the effectiveness and cost of a wall along our southern border, which has adversely affected the fragile environment and vibrant cross-border culture of an entire region. Such a wall stands as a symbol of fear and intolerance. This is not what America is about and we can do better.

“Vibrant cross-border culture?” Like the hellish, head-chopping, kidnapping and lawlessness striking fear on both sides of the border? “Fragile environment?” He’s more concerned about some desert plant than he is about the MS-13 gang members and drug runners traipsing across the “region.”
That’s not all. Also prominently featured in Reid’s bill:

Quote:
We must also live up to the goal of family reunification in our immigration policy and join at least 19 other nations that provide immigration equality to same-sex partners of different nationalities.

These are his top immigration concerns? God help us.
Oh, by the way: McCain Hispanic outreach advisor and anti-”wall” activist Juan Hernandez approves!

Putting up a wall along the southern border is just plain stoooopid. If you put up a wall then you have to have guards in place to guard it. But if you have guards in place to guard it, ta-da!, duh, you don't need the wall in the first place.

Gee Turtle, why don't we just increase our military to a size that can handle these small deployments, bring it up to AT LEAST WW2 levels. Then bring the Reserves back to back fill active duty spots in the U.S., Europe etc. Then the National Guard could be put on the borders to seal them. Equip them with enough vehicals, aircraft etc. The government could buy the needed cars, trucks etc. from the hurting Big 3. That would put money back into the economy. Think any of this will happen under Obama? Naw. He just will increase welfare which will make it more attractive for illegals to come in. Then we can raise taxes on hard working American workers, taking more money OUT of the economy, to pay for the new welfare programs. Which will put more Americans out of work. So we will increase taxes again, etc etc etc. layoutshooter

We need a system in place identical to that along the East German border that I observed in 1968 with the difference being that we aren't shooting and blowing up anyone trying to leave, only trying to enter.

Israel also has some very nice "walls" (fences), but there is something to be said for the east german type pf enforcement of their borders, there is someting appealing to removing those trying to get in illegally........

but hell we don't even support our border patrol now, do the names, Ramos and Compean ring a bell? Just more of our corrupt government.............

Well, I'm one of those who thinks that we should post a guard every 100 feet along the Mexican border, and if anyone tries to come across illegally, just shoot 'em. Half a dozen or so of that and the illegal immigration, and the illegal drug smuggling trade, would grind to a screeching halt.

I don't have a problem with immigrants, nor people wanting to come here. It's a nice place to live. But if you want to come here, fill out the paperwork. If the very first thing you do when you set foot on US soil is against the law, you don't need to be here. And apparently, the manner in which we have been conveying that information isn't getting through to very many of them. Shooting a few of them would probably spread the word.

But, alas, that ain't gonna happen.

Instead, we welcome them with open arms, give them a driver's license, free health care that I can't even get, educate their kids, and put them to work. Well, that's one way to go, I guess.

gee turtle i can get behind that.... as a matter of fact, shooting them, letting the bodies lay there and rot right there i think would be a good deterient......:D
