For quit awhile now Ive noticed somthing abled bodies working for companys with all the Bells and whistles Parking in HandyCapped parking places.

I got a good friend Back In Iowa that has artifical leg and by the way she refuses to park in handycapped parking weather it be wallmarts or kamarts or even the big malls or General Grocerie stores. She said its for the ones that realy need it and are handy capped Ie Wheel chair portable oxygen ect. Melisa got her point across right well.

I dont belive if your in the Expedite business where you have to do heavy work at times load and unload or take fregiht up 4 floors or down 3 floors your realy not Handy Capped. Or as Melisa would say your not in a Wheel Chair are YA!!

Melissa taught me somthing, While I was back home when I asked her why she didnt use her HandyCapped sign.
I look at things differently now and those people that I seen Yesterday if Melisa would of seen you both she would have given you a what for.
Save the space for some one that realy needs it.

I AM what I AM.

My brother has to use walker and wheelchair after his motorcycle wreck and so my mom has to park him close to doors. At Walmart there was a young black boy the other night when I was in town and he had no hc tag or hanger whipped in in front of my mom as she was going for the handy capped spot. I got out and politely explained my brother is currently disabled and needed the spot. His reply was he didn't care so I called a cop friend of the families in that town. They ran the plate and it turned out he had 2 previous unpaid tickets for parking in handy cap spots. 3rd offense in Mississippi is guaranteed impound until fines are paid. They sent a tow truck in and towed it out. Well I saw the guy again inside and told him might want to call momma to come get you. He noticed his car was gone and flipped on Walmart management who kept saying they didn't have it towed. It was hilarious.

A few years back my wife had foot surgery.
During her recovery she wore a boot and was on crutches.
It was Christmas time, and we spent a lot of time in shopping centers ( personal time) .
Walking on crutches, for someone that is new to it, is very tough in ice and snow.
The handicapped spots were often taken by ignorant people only handicapped by ignorance or selfishness.
You don't realize the problem until you're affected first hand.

Here in Ohio, no one needs to call. Park in a HC spot with no sticker and you get a ticket, and towed.

Unless you see the people you really don't know the story.
At Trailer Transit we had a TT driver whose wife had had a stroke and used a wheelchair. Their choice was to have her ride with him full time.
I saw a flatbedder working on his W900 with two wooden legs.
There are days when my gout flares up that it's all I can do to do a walk-around/pti.
So there are reasons an expeditor could need to be in a handicap space.
I never applied for a handicap placcard. I just try to keep the gout in check.

It is a bad thing for sure. The damage to the joints is amazing. When I get it I always get it twice. First the right side, then the left, same joint. As in right knee then about 3 weeks later the left knee. It has been about 6 years since the last attack. I am due for another soon. Can't wait!

During the years I worked in a hospital, I usually arrived early enough to snag a 'good' spot, and sat in the car having a smoke for 10-15 min before going inside. I noticed one person who kept arriving last minute, parking in a handicap spot, and jumping out of the car to dash inside, so I wrote a sign for him and left it on his car: "Ignorance and laziness are handicaps, but you're still not entitled to the spot."
He didn't park there again.

I thought about keeping a few preprinted cards like it handy, but not all disabilities are obvious, and I'd hate to pick someone who just didn't 'look' handicapped. My mother, for instance: she can't walk very far without having to rest, so her placard is genuine - but if she forgot it, people might not see her as deserving of the spot.

In Pa the placsrd can only be used in a vehicle <10,000lbs.
My one brother is on oxygen and has a scooter usally left at home if going to big store, so he tries to get a scooter in store, and most times people are using them because they are to danm lazy..
One guy even got on one to 'save' for his mom who was parking the car, it took 15 mins for mom to show, me and my brother said we were there forst and camot save.
Both my brothers and I have written the local big box store and said that they should require wallet id to show they are disable. Every body gets a wallet card with the placard. I think this is a good idea

It's a classic paradox: we dislike regulation and want less of it, but keep finding ways that more of it is needed, sigh.

It is classic.....the boneheads in here that decry regulation...BUT where did most regulation come from? where are the roots?.....they probably started cuss some yocal pushed the laws over the limit...drove too many hours, drank and did drugs on the job....careless and reckless behavior forcing regulation on the law abiding drivers....I remember the 50's and 60's...drivers were unbelievably wanton and reckless....

There is a big difference between a local law and a federal regulation. The problem is that the feds are greatly overstepping their constitutional bounds, infringing on and usurping, the rights and authority of the States and the People. They have become what we fought against in 1776. An all powerful, uncontrolled government hell bent on controlling every moment of our lives, by force if and when needed.

OVM has a point. Just on the hours-of-service issue, there are some drivers and some companies that would try to go 24-7 if they could, only the law that requires that the driver get some time off stops them. Even then, some still try to push it and we read of them on the local papers when the other law kicks in. You know, the law that says you will get rest sometime, the only question is whether you'll be still living or dead when you get it.

Humans continually prove they can not be trusted....most maybe depending on economics or just plain greed will step over the line and run them "just a few more miles".....

Just being a Man is being a handicap....LOL

This makes no sense. How do you determine if a person is able bodied from casual observation? Are the "Bells and Whistles" relevant?
It seems that you may be making a diagnostic conclusion that is a few steps above your pay grade.

There are many heart conditions, pulmonary disorders and pain syndromes that can limit an individuals ability to walk a long distance across parking lot yet doesn't limit their ability to sit and drive.

Here is just one example from AHA guidelines:

"Patients with cardiac disease resulting in marked limitation of physical activity. They are comfortable at rest. Less than ordinary activity causes fatigue, palpitation, dyspnea or anginal pain..."

Melissa is exactly right. An artificial leg is an assistive device that would preclude a person from being eligible for a disabled parking space; therefore, she is right not to use it.

From FL application for disabled placard:

"If the assistive device (prosthetic) significantly restores the persons ability to walk to the extent that the person can walk without severe limitation, the person is not eligible for the exemption parking permit."

She may also be guilty of mis diagnosis if her belief that only the easily observable assistive devices such as wheel chairs and oxygen define a person that "really needs
it".

This is actually easy to believe as many trucks have teams. One team member can handle the physical workload while the other may be limited to driving.
Also, with FECC you receive information disclosing situations which may involve labor ahead of time so it can be passed on. (sometimes).

. . . if Melisa would of seen you both she would have given you a what for.

I would recommend that you practice restraint before passing judgment on a stranger and giving them "a what for", whatever that is. While it is a good and noble cause to catch cheaters you may want to ease up on the trigger a bit and consider the possibility that you could be very wrong and the results could be embarrassing for all parties.

Oh man, this should be one of those priceless commercials.

Parking in Handicap Zone: $0.00
Walmart Purchase: $14.95
Look on man's face when he realizes his car has been towed and tries to blame Walmart, who is baffled by the whole thing: PRICELESS
