The remarkable aspect of TARP, in retrospect, was the bipartisanship that made it possible. Hank Paulson and Barney Frank became comrades in arms. George W. Bush cooperated with Nancy Pelosi. Conservative Republicans endorsed a vast government appropriation. Liberal Democrats supported a bank bailout. The fact that people of wildly differing political persuasions all came to the conclusion that this was the right policy should be some proof that it was not ideologically motivated. For a moment in September 2008, Washington worked.

I understand the problem, there is an assumption because in reality Washington didn't work.

If it worked than the bi-partisanship would have not happened because the key to this was not the cooperation but the accountable. Cooperation gave us nothing, not even hope, but if people like Frank and Dodd and others like them who actually did harm were held accountable, then Washington would have worked in 9/08

More proof that both political parites have NO problem sticking it to the American taxpayer. There is not one drop of difference between these bums. They are arrogant and out of control. They have forgotten that they are NOT in charge, they are employees. When employees do a bad job, as this bunch has been doing for YEARS, they need to be fired. PERIOD.

Oh ..... I'd say it was ideologically motivated alright ..... but it's the type of ideology that one generally finds mostly "inside the Beltway" .... :D

Hardly a policy that makes ANY sense. Spending money that does not even exist NEVER makes any sense. Spending that is NOT even meant to cover responsibilities of the Federal Government as outlined in the Constitution makes even less sense.
