I don't knowabout you guys, but when I was on the road and most of the time we were not given the consignees Phone #'s when I got inthe area or the closest truck stop, I checked in the phonebook and got there direct number or uses the Yellowpages on the web, when I got the load to get it, I then called the reciever and found out of it could be delivered early or got a delivery time directly from them.
As far as the tolls and being routed around them, that is stupid, even though it included or not included in the price of the load. I cannot see putting on the extra mileage just to save the tolls. IF hazmat, that is a different story due to tunnels, and etc. but to save $10.00 in tolls to go out of my way NO Way.
The tolls are a tax deductiable expense.
Just make sure you save all of them. But, if you do pay for the tolls make sure the receipts are not on THERMAL PAPER. MOST OF THE STATE TOLL ROADS USE IT. THEY FADE OUT. and if you take the tolls as a deduction and you are audited and cannot be read. that amount will not be allowed.
It is the same with other receipts, for instance
Stores:
Walmart, K-mart,Dollar General, and family dollar stores.
Fuel
Mostly all Fuel stops use thermal paper for all there reciepts:
So if you get a print out reciept no matter what you buy, fuel, food, accessories, CB's and etc. they are all on Thermal paper and will fade out especially in the truck. or if folded and stuffed in envelopes, it does not make any difference. unless you receive a regular Fuel ticket. Even some of them fade out, TA/Petro
Make sure you make copies of all receipts at least either weekly or monthly, and group them by type
