The tea party.has brought.many people into Congress that are.more.conservitive than before. They did it again in the primaries including right here.

The reason he was nominated is pretty simple he had the widest appeal. Kinda hard to be the nominee without being chosen by the majority of primary voters.

...or having the out and out anointing of your party AND the media.
