You may want to investigate the Advertisers on this site. At least three offer bonus's for Straight Trucks in their adds and there may be more unadvertised.

makes a big difference if your truck is team or solo.Team straights do pretty good at all the companies, solos are much more difficult, purely depends on the driver,as he has to know how to deal with the hours of service

Well this empty straight truck of mine needs a team in it.If any teams out there are interested,I,ll move the truck to a company of your choice. But truck needs to get at least 2700 miles a week.Any takers?

We are in the same boat regarding keeping a team in a truck...single drivers are no problem.

We have a clean 2008 hino 338 with an apu along with all the works to stay happy.

Weekly break down settlements from both ends, no hidden gray areas etc...but teams are hard to come by or keeping them.

I understand our truck is only a hino, but it can make you money and keep you comfortable.

Advertisment is out there and our carrier helps, but it always ends up wanting a truck like yours or not enough miles, etc.

Why are teams so hard to find? I know there is no simple answer, but there must be at least 5 basic answers, so whats up?

The demand for teams is simply greater than the supply.
A good team is a lot more than 2 drivers running together - it requires a commitment [to each other] that 2 folks driving together to satisfy the requirements just don't have, and can't, no matter how much they want it. Without the commitment, it falls apart, sooner or later, and a lot of damage is done. To relationships [business and personal], and sometimes, to property, too.
That's the reality that no one wants to accept.

For the same reasons happy marriages are so hard to maintain, with the additional factor of both parties having to be drivers of commercial vehicles. They exist, but not nearly in great numbers.
Because the big trucking carriers want teams, and they pay big money to lobbyists, the HOS regs favor teams.
Just like the tax laws favor marriage, but it's not a good reason to get married, lol.

As it was said good teams are hard to come by. When you do come upon one you need to treat them right and the way you want to be treated. The biggest complaint i hear or read on here is folks having problems getting paid. Also no one gurantees you 2700 miles a week in the expediting business .You might run 3000 miles one week and 1500 the next.Read the locations posting and you will find people sitting sometimes a few days . Its the nature of the beast. You might consider driving and hiring a co driver. This may work out better for you.Either way good luck .

So what is your rock bottom price you want the team to accept? You know i bet they could run all week long at 1.25 @ mile. But, then take out your cut, their cut, fuel, expenses, maintenance, incidentals, and the list is Im sure longer but these are off the top of my list.Sometimes less miles for more $$ is the way to go, but it's your decision. Besides it sounds like some companies are limiting a truck to said amount of miles, which is lower than yours. So now there are more trucks out there, which makes it look like business is thriving, when in fact it's failing. If i was in your position, I'd do my damdest to find a team and then cultivate the relationship, and bend over backwards( within moderation) to keep them happy. Maybe the reason you can't keep a team is your a micro-manager?

$1.25per mile for a team? You wont make enought money to change your oil at the end of the month. Straight will get aprox 8mpg. Thats $0.50 per mile for fuel. Aprox $0.20 per driver. Your at $0.90. Where is insurance, maintenance, toll fees and other expenses? Striaght Truck costs aprox $1.00 per mile to operate with 1 driver. Thats without a truck payment. Add that and you are over 1buck. Add another driver and you might be close to $1.30

My point exactly. They didn't specify what they wanted their teams to accept, I just threw that out as a starting point. Thanks for clarifying it more.

it is getting harder and harder for any straight truck teams or solos to make enough money to support at least 2 families out here especially with the high fuel cost no matter which carrier you are leased on with. When fuel cost goes up everything else goes up with pm's and etc. So teams are better off buying their own truck and running it. That is the reason why fleet owners are having trouble filling their trucks.

It was the best move for me, getting away from a fleet owner and getting my own straight truck!

Still empty! But while I,m waiting,I can only put a team in it.I,ve had teams and they,ve made there money, went out and bought their own truck.Good for them.Cause that's what I did.I didn't get in this business 36 yrs ago to get rich, just to make a honest living and help others to do the same.
