Yes, I hoped for that outcome. I have the deepest respect for life until one makes an adult decision that deserves forfeiture of life, at which point this outcome is best. I believe they've arrested 7 people so far for assisting him.

I was happy to hear he was killed, but then thought it would have been better if he rotted away in jail for the rest of his life. I think he got off to easy.

Keeping him in jail for 3x years would cost the taxpayers a couple of million dollars most likely. Getting the death penalty for him, with the excessive number of appeals and excessive delays, would be a few million dollars as well. Bullets are cheap so I'm glad it went the way it did and saved taxpayers a few million dollars. It was the right outcome.

The double standard is because the military is Federal and BARRY is in charge. He does NOT like the military and spends FAR more time defended the so called "RIGHTS" of our enemies than he spends Protecting and Defending this Nation!!

I'm not hearing a peep about this gunman having "snapped" as the excusemakers fell all over themselves covering for Major Nidal Hasan who killed 13 soldiers. Why the double standard???

Well? The gunman was a nut job...at least this guy had instant history...criminal/pyshc reports...no real issue..

The Majors was turned into a political thing almost immediately..

Goes to show just how paranoid some are...

too bad the Washington shooter didn't subscription to a pro Muslum/Anti American organization,,,the stories would have flown...instant terrorist!!

Someone once said:

"Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners."

How does that apply? How much mercy is appropriate? How many chances does the sinner get? Un-Limited? What about the quote "who's sins you shall forgive are forgiven and who's sins you shall retain are retained" ? Is mercy or forgiveness just bestowed on the sinner or must the sinner ASK forgiveness, show repententence and make amends for their sins? And finally, did he NOT answer to Ceaser?

How does that apply?
That is really the question, now isn't it ?

The admonition in the statement was to "Go and learn what this means ...."

I suspect the reason for the admonition was to get people to understand how to actually apply the precept in their daily lives (desiring mercy, not sacrifice) - as opposed to viewing it as some abstract concept ..... or just merely some words.

And probably to illustrate a number of concepts, possibly among them:

What is the nature of God ?

If his nature is one of mercy, whose nature might be one of sacrifice ?

Which is more God-like in your opinion:

To forgive a minor insignificant transgression to which little harm attaches .... or one that is utterly abhorrent, abominable, and truly heinous ?

How much mercy is appropriate?
How much mercy would God be willing to show ?

How much mercy is God willing to show ?

Rather than being specifically about the particular subject - the shooter - involved in this thread, my reply dealt with, and was more directed to the commentary in the thread.

You ask a number of questions - good ones - which I do not at the moment have the time to answer (trying to get ready to go back out on the road) - however none are really relevant to my point - the point which was contained in the passage I posted.

Contemplate it ..... imagine how it might be applied in all areas of life.

It is a shame that work must get in the way of GOOD discussions like this. Is it not?

Just a thought, the death of a KNOWN criminal is NOT sacrifice, it is justice under MAN's law, I contend that it is ALLOWED under God's. Sacrifice is what an individual CHOOSES.

Any who, I do ENJOY this type of discourse, based on ideas etc. I LOVE to learn and gain insight.

Thanks for that.
