Another example of the feces for brains in our liberal leaders and another example of why a whole lot of people should vanish, beamed up by aliens never to be returned.:mad::mad:

President Barack Obama continued the shuttle retirement, but cancelled the return-to-moon mission in favor of a combination approach. Private companies would build their own rockets, and NASA would pay for rides to the International Space Station, like a taxi.

At the same time, NASA would work on bigger rocketships that would eventually take astronauts to other places, such as an asteroid, and eventually to Mars.

I see why Houston didnt get the Shuttle . Houston didnt have enough money .

ok if they are going to let privte companiees build rockets .WHY DO WE STILL NEED NASA. get rid of NASA

and Houston should have a shuttle more then any where else .

What's the big deal about Houston?

It flew out of Florida, it was made by a company who was HQ'ed in Seattle and it was paid for by a president who was born in Yorba Linda California.

Houston is NASA. Mission Control. Most of the history.

AND?

The city wasn't the only location for NASA.

I think maybe we need to get over the symbolism of these government things and look to a better future.

The shuttle was not the best thing that came along, it should have started to be replaced in the early 90's when we could have done that but now it is more important to bailout auto companies and banks than to think about our future in technology and science.

Let that be Houston's monument to the Shuttle - a big empty spot where it would have been if we didn't get screwed.

Have you ever been to the NASA Facilities there in Houston? Quite massive, very impressive. I believe that's where Astronauts get over half their training from.

I think one of the Shuttles DESERVES to be placed there in Houston on NASA's grounds, period. Not placing a Shuttle in Houston at NASA's facilities, an area that deserves the respect it has earned within the Space Program over the last 4-5 decades, gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "Houston, We Have A Problem".

Star wars: Rep calls for Houston to get NASA shuttle, not Intrepid; Schumer says 'Fugheddaboutit'

Star wars: Rep calls for Houston to get NASA shuttle, not Intrepid; Schumer says 'Fugheddaboutit'

A peeved Utah Congressman, joined by a bunch of poor-loser Texans, is mounting a campaign to yank the NASA shuttle Enterprise from the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) pushed a bill that would reshuffle the deck on where the four retired space shuttles will go.

Under his plan, New York's loss would be Houston's gain.

"I am seeking to restore common sense and fairness to the Space Shuttle retirement home debate," Chaffetz said. "Instead of relying on political guidance systems, these decisions must be steered by history and logic."

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) had this reply: "Fughgeddaboutit."

"When people from Paris, Beijing, Tokyo and Amsterdam start saying they want to go to Houston, maybe then they'll get a shuttle," Schumer told the Daily News. "I'd say to Texas, don't mess with New York."

This week, NASA announced the retirement homes of its retiring shuttles. The Smithsonian Institution was awarded the Discovery, Cape Canaveral's Kennedy Space Center is keeping the Atlantis and the California Science Center in Los Angeles was granted the Endeavour.

The trailblazing prototype Enterprise, which proved the space shuttle concept was workable, was awarded to the Intrepid.

Retired Navy Vice Adm. Richard Truly, a two-time astronaut and former NASA administrator, said the Intrepid is by far the best place for the Enterprise to call home.

"The Intrepid is just a beautiful place for it," said Truly, who piloted the Enterprise test flights - and who also made more than 100 carrier landings on the Intrepid.

Truly dismissed the claims by some that the Enterprise, which never flew in space, was not a true space shuttle.

"Anybody who says she wasn't an integral part of the shuttle plan just doesn't know history," Truly said.

Chaffetz' plan would have Houston's Johnson Space Center getting Endeavour - though his statement touting the proposal misspelled it "Endeavor."

The Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, Va., which currently showcases Enterprise, would get Discovery.

The California Science Center in Los Angeles would get Enterprise and Atlantis would stay at the Kennedy Space Center.

Sorry to say this but the only place it should be is at the National Air and Space Museum.

If not there, then the Airforce Museum in Dayton.

Nah, just scrap it and sell the pieces on eBay, we need some positive debt reduction.

I need some positive debt reduction too. At least return all the money back that the government has stolen from me over the years, WITH interest.

I don't know about "stole" but if you made enough to pay the amount of taxes that the shuttle cost, then have at it.

Most politicians never met someone else's dollar that they did not think was theirs.
