Bigger Alternator

I was looking at the prices for an alternator and noticed there are 3 different versions a 110, 120, and 135 amp. Can I just put the 135 amp in place of the 110 without any changes?

IT depends on the vehicle and what engine. Most likely YES but for some vehicles, it may not work.

I have a 165 amp Delco si on this truck and a 300 amp leece-neville I can put on this with no changes.

It is an '06 E350 6.0 turbo diesel which comes with an auxillary battery from the factory so I was thinking the charging system is large enough already that it wouldn't be a problem, but I hate to guess in an important situation like this.

I don't see any issue with it but unless you are running a lot of crap (aux lights, aux heater and a winch) I don't see a need for it.

I was thinking it will get the batteries charged faster so if I am sitting and running a couple of things from the power points it will require less idling.

Install a isolator and a house bank for the price of the bigger alternator, you won't regret it and the alternator that you have will continue to do its job....

Does this van have 3 batteries? If it only has 2, it's not really an auxillary. You could probably separate them, but I wouldn't.

OK, I guess i will put in 2 batteries which should give me 200 amps at least and be enough for what I will be using them for.

before you go out and buy a few 100 amp batteries, think about how you are going to charge them and also how you will keep from them drawing your starting batteries dead....

If you put enough batteries in there you'll have a Volts Wagon.

My battery bank is recharging. It's revolting.

You can get dead batteries free of charge.

OK, I'm done. :D
