Very funny Rocket, you go to "Coal r Us" Where else? Remember, I only used the coal as an example. That tax applies to EVERY service and EVERY thing that you use or buy in England, Scotland and Wales. EVERY thing!! To see how it would affect you, and it will if adopted, go look up the production cost of anything and then work it out. It is what is known as a "Stealth" tax. Queen Hillary TRIED to pass it off as a sales tax but some press guy jumped all over that. She just LOVES that tax. Of course, she is in favor of any tax she ca levi. Layoutshooter

The coal industry in Detroit had a king of coal,Alexander Malcomson. He used a novel approach to delivering coal, expedited deliveries.

Well, if they are going to start taxing everything, why would I want to pay income tax? Hell, I'm going to need the money I pay in income tax just to pay for the sales tax. If we have to pay for both, I can not save any money for retirement.

Don't worry about it...once socialized medicine is in place, the older you get, the less they figure you are worth, they will cut your medical care and meds you need because you are a drain on the system...hence you won't get too old to pay both taxes....

I did not forget, I just thought no one would believe me. The TV tax is to pay for STATE run television, the BBC. You pay a tax PER TV with a higher tax for a color set vs. black and white. At least that is how it was when I lived there. You had to pay the tax even if you only watched the FEW indepentdent stations and skipped the BBC. I don't know how it works with cable, they did not have it when we lived there. The radio tax, same thing for BBC radio as tv was folded into the TV tax prior to our arrival. There were multiple other taxes out there, most Brits kept about $.20 of every dollar they earned. The percentage of people living in "Council Housing" was through the roof, very few Brits owen thier own home compared to the U.S.

Hey guys, the coal thing was a simple example to try to explain a very complicated and devestating tax. A tax that you are very likely to see an attempt to impliment here. They were not real numbers. I just used numbers that were easy to understand. It gets VERY complicated and the government rakes money off the top of everything.
Don't forget the bicycle tax!!

The BBC is comercial free, it is STATE run televison in every respect. The STATE controls all programing and NEWS AND EDITORIAL content. The is NO decenting voice. Even speeches by the "Opposistion" party, that would be the Re-Bum-Li-Cans here, are subject to government "editing" much like in this country with the press being, for the most part, run by the Dumb-O-Crats. You hardly ever get balanced reporting, just look at the Global Warming stupidity. Even if we skip summer and it starts snowing 12 months out of the year in Miami it will be due to global warming. Ever here a good story about hunting? Stories about how a private gun owner thwarting a crime are rare and often slanted to make the person that did in a criminal look like they are the bad guys.

And so it goes. So many in here are willing to throw away every freedom that we have. It is happening very quickly. Hope you Obama Bums love the new tax structure you are going to end up with VERY soon, but hey, you did believe the new "lord our god Obama" when he said he would only tax the very rich, didn't you? Remember the "95%" of all Americans will get a tax break? Easy aren't you? If catching fish with a hook and line was as easy as you were there would be no fish left after about two weeks. Ok, you can have it. lol It's a .357 Magnum, silver, BIG, LOUD, obnoxious and no way I'm ever going to use the dumb thing.

It was my grandfathers, and my dad said I'm not allowed to sell it so I'll be stuck with it, especially since none of my kids want it either. Of course, once my dad is gone he isn't going to care what I do with it.

I just know I have no use for it and if I have to go through a bunch of crap just to own and keep it then I'm definitely getting rid of it. My dad is the gun nut, not me. he has a bunch of different shotguns, rifles and handguns. One is some old Japanese war rifle. I don't know what is going to happen to all of those when he dies.

Interesting you should say that MentalGiant. You just summed up in one little paragraph what most Americans just cannot seem to fathom. ALL of those taxes I wrote about were in ADDITION TOO the 50-98% income tax!!!! NOT insted of, in ADDITION TOO!!!!

When all you Obama Bums (would have been the same with Queen Hillary) voted for "Change" and "FREE" health care you voted for this kind of tax structure. It won't happen over night but it will happen.

Actually the BBC is a bit better than the tv news here. They have accents and dress better most of the time. I don't have to listen to a drunk reporter who can't keep her lines straight.

I was watching BBC America last night and realized that these brits over here that are running the network have it all wrong, we don't want to see Americanized British TV shows but the real thing as they see it. They are bleeping out all the good parts comments (when is "hell" swearing?), editing out all the nudity and sex and even editing some of the shows where the continuity is all lost completely.

Take Top Gear for instance, they are running shows from 4 and 5 years ago while the new shows are running on the same day, who cares about something that happened 5 years ago with a car that is no longer in production?

Didn't they ever hear of satellites?

Are they transporting the tape via a sail boat to the states?

And on top of all that, the BBC website for the show sends you to the US version of the original site which is bad.

Greg, it makes no difference how you get your signal into the home. Remember that every TV is also a transmitter. You can, and the British Post Office does (the post office handles the tv, telephone etc) have cute little vans that drive up and down the streets monitoring the houses. If they "SEE" a TV on they check there "STATE TAX LIST" to see if you have paid your TV tax, if not, ZAPPO!!! BIG fines!!!

Thier shows make ours look tame as far as sex. For the most part that is all thier comedy is, brain dead writers I guess. Well they are socialists so that would make sense. Way more sex talk, nudity etc. We were shocked when we got over there and saw the type of programing that they had. Low budget, poorly written, a lot of "raunchy" comedies, zillions of prime time soaps etc. It was bad back then . Not sure how it is now. Layoutshooter
