Why would you believe we'll be busy??

Ya know all them auto parts we were pickin up from them small part makers, I'd assume that they run till they caught up? If they were behind before, they sure would be caught up and ahead now. Remember it was only Axel on strike....trucks have still been doing thier milk runs and bringing parts in where everthey were short and NOT expedite either....I expect it to be slow till them auto part suppliers start running out again....

well if they were still operating then 28 gm plants would not be shut down along with a hand full of chrysler. gm is out of axles for vans , suv's, trucks same for the few chrysler plants. chrysler did stock up before the strike but are slowly running out also.

They were on strike at the Buffalo, NY plant, but we had two loads from there last week. No real issues other than they escort you back to the plant. Pretty decent loads to AL.

Inventories are up anyway for all involved, we are in a recession in the domestic automotive sector maybe even going into a depression so a shutdown going into the last quarter of the model year before the change over isn't all that bad.

You know thinking about it, you don't hear much in the news about the strike with the mayor's problems, to be exact I don't even know what they are striking for, they should be greatful that they have a job. But I expect that GM will find another Axle source soon.... maybe China....

How can you say that? If work at a place for 10-20 years. You have a standard of living, then your employer tells you they are cutting your pay in half, you would probly loose your house, car etc. What would you do if your rates got cut in half.........park your truck, isnt that the same as going on strike. they have no choice.

What?

They have no choice?

They have a choice, either realize that their jobs will go overseas or take a cut in wages and benefits to keep working.

They make about $65 an hour including the cost of the benefits, the reduction that is needed to keep the company solvent in the US lowers it to $27 an hour including the cost of the benefits. You know making $27 an hour including the cost of the benefits is a lot more than many make in this area for unskilled labor, But with the stupidity of the UAW leadership in setting their people up, I would think that the strike is cutting their own throat in the long run.

The company needs to be competitive, they are no longer competitive at that wage, so it comes down to pulling together as a company (and maybe using the pension money for more than buying stock in casinos, like buying a part of the company) or continue to have this stupid hate filled relationship between labor and the company which will be the demise of both the company and the union.

Oh by the way, I just heard that they are talking about moving some production to Mexico.

I still say they have no choice. Some things are worth fighting for, Like your way of life. To many people just give up, and take what is offered to them. The powers that be wont be happy untill they have us all working for the same pay as 3rd world countries. Untill the people wake up and quit acting like sheep things will go down hill. Quit buying all that crap from overseas and sending our money overe there. Build our economy not theirs. You seem to agree that there should not be good paying jobs for the masses, only the well educated or highly skilled. thats not what this country was founded on.

And as far as the UAW buying part of the company with the retirement money, come on the first rule of retirement is you dont invest in the Company you work for, You dont put all your eggs in one basket.

I ordered another van because I have a buyer for my current one.

Now I can't get the replacement van because the plant is idle due to this axle strike. I just love unions. Not!

Maybe I'll fight for what is right and just by a Nissan chassis instead.

Ah, yes...more grass growing up through the cracks in the asphalt at U.S. production facilities.

Why would you buy nissan and send money to Japan????????? Thats the problem nobody supporting fellow Americans, I dont think all you anti union guys dont realize that without unions America wouldnt be where it is today,we would all be working under the same conditions that China is working under today. You might or might not have had a union Job But the union has raised the bar for all working Americans. And ever since union membership has declined so has the average wages of the average American. So keep slaming the unions and pretty soon we wll all be scratching sh** with the chickens......

Seems like everyone wants to save a dollar by buying overseas junk at the expence of american jobs ..........Remember years ago when the Unions were telling everyone to buy american the job you save might be your own??????????????

You know you make a good point.

Yes let's start building our economy up, first stop buying products made in foreign countries, like Dodge Caravans and Ram trucks or HHRs. Get rid of this attitude that Canada is the same as the US, they are a foreign country like India, China and Mexico. Let's stop exporting our money and start supporting the American mom & pop stores, lets support American made products instead of just saying it.

I was at WalMart today, I was being compensated for a problem I had with one of their workers. I was also in Ford country, I saw a lot of Ford workers there buying things and spending money. I know a few of them make three times as much as I am, so what are they doing at Walmart? It seems to me that they should go somewhere else and not be cheap if they expect me to buy their product.

I think that the need to show their loyalty to the company that provides them a job, it should be on the top of the priority list but I see a few of them get into that Honda or when I would go to the rouge, there would sit a Dodge or GM product, a few not even made here in the US. Odd that I grew up being told that my grandfather would not even bring his Chevrolet to Highland Park because it was not a Ford product and ride the street car for an hour in all kinds of weather instead of looking disloyal to the company that provided him a job.

The UAW is part of the problem, their membership is at an all time low and getting lower. They sit on the boards of these companies and know what is going on long before any announcements are made about plant closures or opening of plants in Mexico and China. They have conditioned the workers to believe that the company is the enemy, this hate filled relationship has to stop but won't until the auto companies shed all the plants in the country.

You seem to agree that there should not be good paying jobs for the masses, only the well educated or highly skilled. thats not what this country was founded on.

Nope you don't get what I am saying at all. I am against organized labor taking from the workers and returning less every year. I am against the wall that remains between management and the workers that is killing an industry I grew up around. The union served a purpose, that purpose is long gone and the union has yet to justified it's existence in this new world.

For me it is not about the wages of the worker, it is about the entire picture. The crying from the companies because they can't compete in the market because of health care. The lack of basic economics when it comes to talking about real issues that hold the industry back. I see the domestic companies in decline for only one reason, they have no product to sell.

Also I see a state which is so screwed up that they need to shut the doors to any opportunities. The state has shifted education and retraining funding around in the last 5 years, screwing people who were part of the health care industry but got laid off (they employed more workers than all of the auto industry). The people reelected the same idiot who has been chasing jobs away and now they expect to become the mid-west Hollywood by further giving things away. We count job creation in increments of tens while other states count them in hundreds.

And as far as the UAW buying part of the company with the retirement money, come on the first rule of retirement is you dont invest in the Company you work for, You dont put all your eggs in one basket.

You have no clue how much money they have do you? They can help the workers of a few of these suppliers to gain control of the company, reorg it and then have it become an employee owned company - but the UAW does not want that, do they? If the union can't or won't have confidence in the company, then why should the consumer?

" Why would you buy nissan and send money to Japan?"

What makes you think that my money isn't going overseas through the American car companies?

I am not bashing unions, I am bashing the uaw.

I know they have a lot of money in their retirement plans, But the main thing that the union is there for is to protect the members intrest, so why would they invest in a company that says it cant afford to pay its workers. Retirement investments of the union reitrement plan is to make the plan money not to bail out the company you work for. Come on you dont want to loose your job and your retirement nest egg at the same time.

AMEN Greg! While the unions probably did serve a purpose at one time they are a huge part of the problem of the industry now. I agree with you whole heartedly.

And these unions and UAW need to wake up and smell the coffee..makes me want to go buy that Tundra just for effect!

I think its the American public that need to wake up and smell the coffee. The people that work with UAW behind them are about the only ones hourly wage will buy what it did 30 yrs ago. Seems like the anti union people just cant wait for them to be behind on their wages as the rest of the people, instead of bringing the rest up to UAW wages.

Why not? The Tundra is made here in the US, unlike the so-called American big threes' cars.

When my wife and I bought our Odessey, we picked for the accolades it recieved in everything from crash testing to Car & Driver. Over 70% is made right here. Japanese ingenuity with American muscle. Best of both worlds without the UAW interfering.

I guess if you think its all right for the Japanese to pay their workers less than the american UAW workers and send the profits back to Japan is going to stenghten our economy ( I think not ) I wish people would look at the big picture.
