Accidents Happen

Well, i went out of service the 4th of the month to do the Car show deal with the old street rod. Went back in service on the 11th and took a load from detroit to bufflo. I dropped spent the night and got a nice run that paid good down to Easley SC. While on my way to the shipper and within a 1/2 of the dock, a 1983 Caddy ran a red light and broadsided my van.....no fun.

Now after a call to the police, and an hour wait for them, the officer says, he ain't writing anyone a ticket cause he didn't see it happen and NY is a No-fault state.....The guy says he thought he had a green light but maybe not....so while thevan is a mess, it was drivable after replacing a tire valve stem and having the toe-in set, so i drive back to home. I had made all of the necessary calls to safety and compliance and the 2 insurance companies. On may why home, the liability carrier calls me , they were more then happy with the info i provided, like the fact that the guy had a sheet of gray plastic covering the drivers window that he had to tear off so he could get off of the car and the fact that there was a witness that stated he ran the light, but it seems that after i spoke with the police a witness for the other guy showed up , this is about an hour and half later, seems he seen it all but couldn't stop then but thought he would stop back to make sure it all went down right. Yea right...LOL then the claims rep tells me the guy is now hurt and his FATHER INLAW call the insurance company ion his behalf to inform them he was taking the guy ti the hospital...the guy told the police officer he was fine....

Seems that even though NY is a no - fault state, when you are in a commerical vehicle, that all goes out the door, and since the officer didn't write anyone a ticket, anyone can claim on anyone and the insurance companies get to fight it out......

So the van is a mess, can't get things going it till Monday..... I am out of service for it looks like a week minimum probably closer to 2 weeks......I am gonin to Hawaii, screw it.........See all later....

Oh and welcome back Greg, you showed up while i was gone doin the car show deal...always enjoy your writings and rants, I'll look forward to reading them when i get back from my forced vacation............

PS: You all might what to check your insurance policies as to what you have as far as protection for liability in a NO FAULT situation........

"Forced" vacation to Hawaii, huh? That's a hard one to take...Glad to hear you didn't get hurt. Good thing all that ammo you carry around didn't explode!

I don't agree with the way No-Fault works. Its more expensive, even if its not your fault, your insurance premium might go up anyways. I lived in Oklahoma and only needed liability insurance on my car. It only cost me about $95 for a six month premium and that includes uninsured motorist. In Michigan just for the basic liability it would cost me $385 for a six month premium because its a no-fault state. I moved to Michigan was so surprised how much I had to pay for insurance for basically the same coverage, just handled differently.

You over looked one item tho. There is NOBODY in Oklahoma so your chances of being in an accident are drasticly reduced.

Ok, explain this.

I lived in Dallas, TX for about 5yrs and had full coverage from bumper to bumper on a new truck that was worth a little of $15,000. Deductible was $500 and paid $810 for six months. I know that is a larger amount, but compared to basic liability and the area its not that much more. In Adrian, MI on a 10yr old car, full coverage with basically the same coverage would of cost us $588 for six months. The car was barely $1800 and we both have clean records of any accidents or tickets.

Of course we know insurance is a scam in many ways.

In Texas you can carry a gun. You get into an accident there things will be taken care of one way or another.

I got hit in the rear while we were both going about 60. My van was out of commission about two weeks. This was in no fault Michigan. My deduct was $1,000. The law said I could only collect $500. So...... I got hit in the butt by someone who was obviously at fault and it cost me $500.

"No Fault" laws apply to personal injury, not property damage. Unfortunately expedite vans lose book value quickly due to the high mileage. Update your coverage once a year based on the book value and then have a ****tail. uh how about a rooster tail or martini.

Ya, the only way I found to avoid that situation is have broad form included in the insurance. With that, if its not your fault, you don't pay nothing, if it is your fault, of course your going to pay something.

Broad form cost more, so, I guess your paying more, not to pay when its not your fault.
