I think it's worse than that... Nine of you won't be here in 3 months. None of you will be here next year...

busness plan questions from an experienced newbie

Lol! A furniture salesman being qualified to spout off on the merits or lack thereof of becoming an expediter is about like a community organizer being qualified to be president!

    the art of repositioning

Oh yeah? That load I told you about that time I got from Seattle down to Key West was for for real! Paid $1.50 per mile. They gave me 3 days to get there but I made it in two...

    Trying Hours

My 2 cents: Try Hours is not a bad company. I spent a minute there. Their niche is about a 150 mile radius of Toledo. If that works for you you'll do O.K. Their rates are actually pretty good. If you get outside that 150 mile radius, expect to deadhead back or take a very low rate to get back...

    tri state expediters

First of all, let me just say I can't believe I have time to post anything, being that they keep me so busy, I don't hardly have time to think...but let me just jot down a couple things.. What a company Tri State is. These people are as close to Saint like as I have ever encountered. When you...

Try Hours: good thing or mistake?

Good loads within about 100 mile radius of Toledo, spotty outside of that circle. lots of short loads that pay alright for what they are. If you are happy running regionally, they're O.K. If you are looking for something bigger, look elsewhere...Nice people though.

    How should a contract read

Life is a gamble. I believe in the Golden Rule. If I get screwed, well, I also believe in walking slowly and carrying a big stick....usually a baseball bat!

Buy A New Van Right Off the Bat?

Starting a business requires a alot of things, primarily initiative and capital. It is very difficult, if not almost impossible to make an actual living driving someone else's van in this business. If you do not have much capital, it doesn't seem very wise to me to purchase a new van when you...

Become an Expediter, See the Country

I can't believe you are really that p'd off about this, nor that "sightseers" are bringing the rates down... I, like a few others, suspect some axe to grind. A pattern of this, by you, has been established in previous posts. Besides, the really low rates are being perpetrated by only a few...

Become an Expediter, See the Country

That is strictly your opinion. I know and have known a number of folks who, aside from needing to make a living, felt they could kill two birds with one stone, myself included, by hauling freight and seeing the country at the same time. Most of these particular people are glad they did it, even...

Assignments or Accept and Decline offers?

Here is a good rule of thumb. I live by this. "If you take all the work you can get, you'll get all the work you can take". That being said, you can't work for nothing or just spin your wheels breaking even. It is crucial to know what your costs are each day. To be succesful, you must accept...

    help a newbie!

I have a rule of thumb on this issue: If it isn't knocking, smoking, or slipping , it'll probably serve you at least 6 months to a year. I have used this logic twice before and made out OK. If you are a little handy and can do light mechanical work yourself, $5,500 is probably a fair price...
