    update on truck damage

I'm still able to work with the truck until the check comes in . The England office in Utah gave me the AIG number in Atlanta and they referred me to an adjuster in Des Moines . If the check comes in next week I'll be able to get the truck repaired then . The body shop has worked with AIG before...

    update on truck damage

I mentioned on another thread about a C.R. England driver backing into my truck then trying to deny damage . There was discussion about validy of digital photos , the need of witnesses , etc . I just wanted to let you all know England has a very cooperative insurance carrier . When I came home...

    Sprinter cab chassis sleeper

Who cares if it's too small for DOT specs ? The DOT cares . If you're under 10,000 lbs. GVW and not logging you might be o.k. but I hear DOT in IA is really hassling one ton crew cab drivers wanting to know where they sleep . The back seat of a crew cab is not acceptable .

    cargo vans share tire experiences

Go to tirerack.com . They will give you a list of tires along with ratings and reviews with each tire . Don't rely on customer reviews too much though . I have Goodyear 235/80 17 tires on my truck . Some customers rated them poorly on wet roads . I have over 36,000 miles on them and have driven...

    lease purchase program

I'm surprised no one mentioned the much preferable option of starting with a fleet owner . Some of them will agree to sell you the truck but even without that option it's a far riskier way to get started . Panther II's ads state they need drivers for fleet owners.

    Frozen Locks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw a post recommending propane convection heaters for warming cargo vans while sleeping . They use the 16 oz. propane bottles and might work thawing out a lock . I didn't find one adequate for warming a truck while sleeping though . the problem is the instructions recommend at least 6 sq. in...

What are some good companies and expected incomes?

RE: What are some good companies and expected inco Many contractors started out working for a fleet owner . You don't have the expense of buying a truck and if things don't work out you can walk away . If you plan on running solo the money isn't that great . Most runs will be restricted to 500...

    Forklift damage. Who pays?

Thanks , Doc . No , I won't be bluffed . Since damage was fairly minor and I can still use the truck I'm under no pressure to settle . England must get a lot of accident claims because I'm on hold 30 - 45 minutes every time I call . I belong to the OOIDA and may get them involved . Anyone...

    Forklift damage. Who pays?

RE: I needed my cameras I asked the police officer for the info . He told me he couldn't give it to me then , that it would be on the police report . The police report didn't have insurance info . It had my info . His info was listed as " unknown " . I'm an owner/operator and have to provide my...

Cargo Van vs. Van w/ Box Unit

I see you're from KY . I've seen ads in Louisville newspapers for local expediters wanting to hire cube vans . DMW in Nashville also uses them .

    Whats it like ????

Who cares how small it looks when it fits in spaces other trucks can't fit in ? It's very rare a straight truck can't find a spot to park at a truck stop while semis line up on the shoulder .

    truck stops

I think I know the T/A on 80 you're talking about but even the ones that charge will allow free parking when you spend a certain amount on fuel or in the store or shop . Their prices are high on everything though .

    Whats it like ????

If you contact the recruiter at FedEx CC she will send you complete info showing all averages for all classifactions of trucks for one year . Keep in mind a lot of these drivers only run 3 weeks a month and usually less than 2,000 miles week .

    Forklift damage. Who pays?

I needed my cameras I was at a fuel stop in Upper Sandusky , OH January 7 . After fueling I went inside to grab a bite to eat . As I came out I saw a C.R. England truck pulling forward away from my truck . I knew another truck had been in that space only a few minutes earlier . I checked my...

    Time to ask questions

When background checks start that Hazmat will be worth a lot . Check the free classifieds here . It doesn't take much money to start out driving for a fleet owner . That's the recommended way to get started .

    truck stops

I'd be careful at WalMart . It depends on the attitude of the store manager . I read of one WalMart store manager that called the local police to ticket every truck on the lot . They did - including 2 WalMart trucks . I've never had a problem taking my full break in rest areas even though the...

    Fog in Indiana/Ohio Chicago

I left Peru , In 4 a.m. the 12th and took 24 to 69 to 30 across IN to 71 , 76 , then 80 east across OH into PA . It was rough and called for a lot of caution . The damage from ice was unbelievable . People were days without electricity .

    BEGGARS

I've heard of drivers giving people money for food then seeing them with cigarettes in their pockets soon after . My niece gave a woman on I-95 in CT money for gas then tailed her to a liquor store . If somebody asks me for gas money I ask to see their gas guage . If they're hungry I offer to...
