    HAZMAT Renewal.....Yuk!

You missed it all right . You won't get the Hazmat endorsement until they've finished the background check in a month or so . They should let you have a CDL minus that endorsement right away though .

    Independent Contractor Classification

I read the 20 steps to determine classification in the article on the home page . Three seem questionable . One is that if you work for only one company you are an employee . Another is if you work full time for a company you are an employee and the third is if you are required to submit written...

    Fleet owners needed?

I think 2 C or D units with teams would be a lot more profitable . I don't see how any solo operation could turn a decent profit for 2 parties .

Just because the roads are clear ......

I see your point . There are plenty of times I'll turn the CB off when the idiots get on there but to me it's worth it to know there's a major backup ahead and I have a chance to pull off in a rest area or truckstop and take a break rather than sit in a 9 or 10 mile parking lot burning up fuel...

    van rates??

A better way to phrase it might be " What are rates paid ? " You won't be the one setting the rate . You'll be accepting a rate that has already been determined .

Just because the roads are clear ......

Weather conditions this time of year call for extra caution . A CB really helps you keep aware of conditions ahead but assess all info properly . Drivers will still being informing you of a wreck 100 miles ahead . When you consider it's been over an hour and a half since they passed there and...

    HAZMAT Renewal.....Yuk!

The way I understod the rules you get your background check and fingerprints when you renew your license , no need to do it any other time . Get your license renewed early though because the background check takes over 30 days . The way I've heard it if you wait until a day or two before your...

    Hazmat background checks

Well , they finally got this going . Beginning this month new applicants are expected to pay out over $90 for a background check . Renewals won't be affected for a couple of months . I'm sure the checks will disqualify quite a few current holders of hazmat endorsements . I assume all o/o and...

What is the smallest tractor I can use?

More coffee , more tips O.K , I have a little more to add . If you do get a new truck buy a flatbed without the hitch and add it after purchase . This will allow you to avoid paying excise tax . There's more info on this at cowboycadillac.com which I think is the site raceman was referring to ...

What is the smallest tractor I can use?

We could all use a little more info on your needs . One point is going with a truck larger than a 350 will put you over 26,000 lbs and subject you to fuel taxes and reports you are now exempt from . I own a Dodge 3500 Dually . The towing capacity is 16,000 with a gooseneck .( GCVW 23,000 ) ...

    Looking to buy FL70 HELP

I am amazed at how many FL70's are actually used . I was once a driver for a truck repair company and drove a lot of customers' FL70's . They aren't quality trucks . International makes a much more reliable truck . See the post about the DT466 engine .

    Hours of Service

One option not mentioned is takng the 34 hour restart . This is one regulation Public Citizen ( who in reality is J. Claybrook , the woman resonsible for deaths of a couple of hundred woman and children killed by airbags she pushed for ) wants eliminated . If you get in trouble with hours take a...

    New/used question

Used is o.k. if the vehicle has been properly maintained . People trade for a reason . New will also give you warranty protection but then you have higher taxes and insurance fees . Many will say it's just better to drive for a fleet owner .

    Keeping Warm??

I tried the propane heater from WalMart and it didn't work for me . The instructions say to have 6 sq. in. of ventilation and the heater can't make up for the cold air that allows in . Cracking the window would also pose a danger of carbon monoxide from cars running nearby as mentioned in...
