How Did You Get Your CDL?

I got an AR chaufeurs license back in the 70's . During that time some states went to their own classifications . A MA semi driver needed a class I , RI a class III . I moved from AR to MA . They would not accept my AR chaufeurs license for a class I - said I needed a road test despite the fact...

    Satellite TV Rec

Did anyone ever think of getting a free Dish Network home system then getting an inverter ( which most expediters already have ) , getting a truck mount for the dish , and taking it on the road ?

    what are my options

If you can get to a truck stop they have free truck ad papers . Just look for expediter trucks . Most major Freightliner dealers have expediter trucks on the lot . Also check the Alumi-bunk link at this website buyers guide .

At what point is logging required

Over 10,000 lbs you also need a DOT physical and drug testing . Don't assume you can avoid scales by being under 26,000 . WV says all trucks over 5 tons must enter . Some states say all commercial vehicles .

    Knoxville TN ?

Try talking to DMW expediting out of Nashville . With a lot of expediters though where you live doesn't really matter if you're out 3 or more weeks at a time .

Fuel Mileage on E350 diesel 7.3 power Stroke

Are you sure you want the 7.3 Powerstroke ? It's been a few years since they quit making them so you'd be buying a unit with quite a few miles .

How long do you wait before switching companys??

RE: It's somewhat different for a Canadian RE: How If the new company is hiring a recruiter to hire more drivers I'd worry about how much work there would be for each driver after they hire all these drivers .

    Curious -- have questions.

I'm sure you will be told income is up to you and how you're willing to run but call FedEx Custom Critical recruiting and ask them to send 2003 figures . They send charts with complete info - average miles run , rate per mile loaded , average for all miles , etc. for all type units .

    Hot Shot Delivery

I've talked to DMW and they seem to be a decent company . They have local daily runs that use regular straight trucks and cube vans .

    Expedite Company In Tennessee

I haven't heard of that company but DMW in Nashville is worth checking out .

    all-types expediting nightmare

You should have checked the past messages here on All Types . I would have possibly made the mistake of trying to contract with them if not for this forum . As much as they've ripped people off I don't know how they're still in business . You should join the OOIDA and have them investigate All...

    Local hauling start up

The only problem I see is you want to offer people delivery without having to wait . What happens when 2 or 3 people ask for deliveries within the same time frame ? If you're busy enough to succeed somebody will have to wait but you have a good idea . Keep in mind the risks of difficult...

    Confessions of an Expediter

I regulary run I-75 and other midwest and midsouth interstates . When I went to work for my former employer I was impressed by their supposed attitude toward safety . I regularly ran in Illinois and soon after starting commented to the owner , who would fill in for drivers from time to time ...

    Attention: Recruiters,Owners, and Drivers

It's probably the insurance companies that make the restriction , not the carrier . The one thing you have to be wary of is a carrier that would hire you would probably be one that is desperate for help because they have a bad reputation for holding back payments , etc . One thing you might...

WOULD LIKE TO GET INTO EXPEDITEING

There are a lot of fleet owners out there that hire drivers . Some drivers like this arrangement a lot and just continue working that way . As mentioned in the previous response , check the classifieds at this site .

    Truck Ideas

Trash transfer trailers and mulch trailers have live floors . It adds to the weight but sure would help unload as you suggested and be a big help shifting loads to scale axles out

    Truck Ideas

The toter homes are cool but you eliminate one of your major benefits of getting around in city traffic . Another plus of having a single axle tractor with a pup is lower cost and better trade in value when replacing the unit . I figured if an expediting company went to using a lot of small...

    Warning.

Just another comment on All Types . I talked to their recruiter and considered them . Two things turned me away . One was this forum . The other thing was I regulary traveled their supposed area of operation and never saw a single one of their contractors . I talked to many other contractors on...

    How To Find Low-Cost Fuel

I saw an article in " Mother Earth News " about burning straight vegetable oil which can be obtained free from restaurants in diesels . A complete kit with heated tank costs less than $1,000 . SVO must be heated for use so engines must be started on diesel then shout down on diesel to remove SVO...

    Warning.

Yes. I reread the post and saw I guessed right . It was All Types . A couple of months back I posted an inquiry about them . Since then I've read several posts of bad experiences with them .
