    Only in California...

Did anyone else hear about the whacked-out, granola crunching, teacher that actually wants to take her class on a field trip to see Algore's movie? When I was in high school there was a hippie English teacher that set up a field trip to see Yellow Submarine(Mrs. Goosey was WAY cool). We went...

    Roadside Inspections

A clean truck helps. Stay on top of air leaks and keep your brakes adjusted. If they're standing outside looking you over as you approach you will have a good chance of just getting the quick once over and avoiding a level 1(or whatever # the major inspection is).

    Serendipity, Bad Karma, or Whatever

I have heard of people that did'nt have such a good time when they did this. If you are commercial you are supposed to go through with the trucks.

    Canada border crap

RichM's responce was the best one. The way I handle crossing, either side, is to answer all questions in a polite, professional manner and then go about my business. For me it's like the Vegas slogan, what happens at Customs stays at Customs. It's not worth getting worked up over. It was just a...

    Training a co-driver

RE: Don't try and go into business RE: Training a Another thing to consider is your truck. A great truck, but it is experienced. Going team will have you running the miles up real quick. How soon will you be prepared to rebuild?

    Is It Jet Lag?

I feel like the jet lag happens more when I'm on the road. We never really know what our hours are going to be from day to day. More of a twilight zone than a consistant time zone. My first day home I feel the same as Broompilot. Mail, laundry, bank, oil change, ect. A lot of b/s that quickly...

    Training a co-driver

I would say to go with your gut on this. And, maybe give serious thought to staying on your own. The vast majority of people I've talked to that tried this have ended up solo. When you find a dieselfreakette give it a shot.

    Smells

It's interesting to see this thread come back after a year. Due to the SEVERE downturn in van freight I'm considering going to a bigger truck. Instead of having to park with the vermin in the big lot maybe I'll just get out.

Are you as slow in this business as we are

I've never seen it this slow this time of year. Not a good thing with July just around the corner.

    Cargo vans scaling in Michigan

I was told the sticker is required for intra-state moves, not just delivering. Also, for any vehicle registered in Mich. I know a D-unit guy that got a ticket at the I-75 scale for not having it.

    Draw A Pig

I was pretty impressed until the last one. Good sex life, yeah, right. That pig I drew will be flying before that happens. Clearly a bogus exercise.

    Driver, secure that freight!

I don't know how many totes were involved, but it seems it would have been better to have a group in the nose and a group over the trailer axles. Three load bars would keep everything in place.

    GM and the UAW

I think we could easily imagine what the masters of rhetoric would come up with as a responce. The words dignity and respect would be prevelent. A lot of talk about families. And, it would all be spun in a way to make it sound like that drunk that, if he does show up, is a valuable asset even...
