    Almost ready to head out

Businesses certainly can be purchased today or next week/month/year when affairs are in order. No problem. However, those of you that would sign a title for equipment, with out a nickel in any form of payment, and send it down the road with a person with integrity, needs to show me your hands...

Is it important for your carrier to be certified?

RE: Is it important for your carrier to be certifi ISO,SMISO. Is simply put, that all in the chain know how to react to a certain event, conjured up by someone normally not in the foxhole. In a perfect world, the answer will be correct. That is why all the "thinkers" on this site have...

    Independent or Company...

Either way you go with this, i'll suggest that your soup will probably get pretty thin, if you are planning on trucking for a six month vacation each year.

    Pre-trip inspections

Sadly, taking ten minutes to change a headlamp at 8 AM, in a delivery parking lot, however admirable, instead of at 2 AM when discovered, will probably get you no cigar's in this ruff and tumble world. Seems clear to me that the responding cop had it in for trucks, or, there is more to the...

30+yr trucker looking for a change...

Fortuneately the "sitting and waiting" can be avoided, depending on what direction you choose to go. Your truck will be an advantage if, you chose to not sit and wait. The specs you gave are adequate for a h/w team, tou should enjoy yourself.

Drivers want to go to 18% from 20%

C'mon, if they're makeing a grand a week who cares about ten or twelve bucks either way?? If tho, on average they are making five hundred, then, ten or twelve might be an issue. I guess I don't understand why the discussion if, all things are as typed. Giv'em 18% and everybodys happy...

A Little Bit of Positive Input....

I'm not at all pick'in at your truck. Sorry if you felt that. I'm just saying, keep your costs down, and do it for yourself. If in fact your payments approach 40% of gross, shame on you. Ten percent or less would be realistic I feel. The 80K figure I mentioned, which IS a lot of money to me...

    Are These The Bad Times?

I'll agree with LETZROCK. If it were any better than this, I couldn't stand it.

    Didn't make it

It appears to me your van has cost you about eight cent a mile (and counting down) to run it. GOOD JOB!! $.90 - $.08 (equip) - $.20 (fuel) leaves somewhere $.62 X 385,000 = $238,700.00 minus whatever dead head. Seems to me a fella should be able to live pretty comfy over a 3 year period or...

    Beware of Cummins motors

I prefer to use the Ma and Pa type shops when I can find one on the road. Seems to me they, for the most part are still "mechanics" as well as "technicians". Seems you only find technicians in the bigger shops instead of the good ole problem solving "wrenches".

A Little Bit of Positive Input....

That's right ATEAM, 40% of gross makes a heck of a truck payment if you need one. I wouldn't drive a truck for someone across the street in this business (going against expert recommendations on this site) for just the reasons you state in your post. I also would not invest 80K in a machine...

Which company actually cares about good drivers?

RE: Which company actually cares about good driver Flatbeddin: I'm certainly not putin you down, if you are typing about me. Fact is i'm trying to help you understand the business. It is an imperfect world. Read what I typed. I will say tho, that if spending time with family and friends is...

Which company actually cares about good drivers?

RE: Which company actually cares about good driver A trip to the grocery store for milk, Dr Pepper, whatever, cheaper in Michigan than Pennsylvania? You will never convince me! Regardless, slide'in home, while under load Will bite you in the A$$ someday.

Which company actually cares about good drivers?

RE: Which company actually cares about good driver I have to chime in here on this subject I guess. First, a hundred fourty bucks to babysit freight a couple days over the weekend really ain't bad. What was you going to do those two days, other than dead head home? Second, instead of being...

A Little Bit of Positive Input....

Yes, a very good post. Seems most folks that are in this business have acquired, from somewhere, a "handy dandy little woodchuck guide to expediting" in which states somewhere, that, you can't enjoy yourself on the road. Couldn't be further from the facts. I have had folks that have run long...

    Beware of Cummins motors

Unfortuneately, seems to be a quality of repairs issue here, rather than brand. I'm convinced, without being told, that your drivers departed the truck and into their comfy motel room, and never darkened the door of the shop to supervise or ask questions about the repair. Because, they didn't...
