Get it in writing before committing!

If it were me I would call Panther recruiting and see if they have a van owner looking for a driver. You should get a better gig than you are getting from this guy. Davekc

    Owner Operator Question

We are with Panther and they do call to see if we want to come back, but that is about it. You are an independent contractor. They can't make a demand to return unless there is an availability clause in their contract. If so, it wouldn't be common. It is ok with us if they ask, but they have...

    Respect ~ Driver Turnover

It is good to see input from an owner. Many times we hear how unfair they are from the driver prospective. There are good and bad owners as well as drivers. Some drivers in the past have been very critical of their owners. However the majority of owners have been former drivers, while very few...

    Fuel at Indian Reservations

If over 26,000 gvw, I believe you are responsible for the fuel tax even though it is not collected at the pump. Davekc

    Newbie questions (long)

Starting a new company can be tough with limited or no capital. If on the west coast, I would look at freight forwarders or air freight out of LAX. It would be easier to adjust equipment requirements as you need to. Alot less capital and you will have access to a large customer base. Once you...

Get it in writing before committing!

I think it is a much better policy to have all of these things up front whether you are attending orientation or not. Pursue the owners that have a decent and honest reputation. Find another owner other than this guy. Sounds like he is a rip-off artist. Davekc

    Forklift damage. Who pays?

I agree with Terry. Most companies will respond the same. You are really out of luck if you leave the location. Davekc

    NYC

Unless the revenue is considerable, I would clearly avoid a delivery into the city. Driving through on the freeways is not too bad depending on time of day. Do consider there are numerous and expensive tolls through the tri-state area. Davekc

    LET ME RE-PHRASE THAT

As a general rule, most larger flatbed hotshot companies are located in TX,LA, and AL. Most of this freight is related to the oil and chemical industry. Very competitive and not for the novice or timid. Davekc

    All Types Expediting

I would clearly do my research before signing on with this carrier. While I know very little about them, I have yet to see any positive feedback from their drivers. As mentioned, read previous posts as there are more verifiable reports regarding other carriers. Davekc

    *** Class 8's - Fuel Economy ***

Remember that it is the drive train more than the specific truck that will deliver the desired fuel economy. Steer tires all around this time of year could prove interesting in the snow. Might be fun though:D Davekc

    Panther drivers, another question please

There may be an occassion that they offer you a van load at a reduced rate. It may pay only $1.10 per mile. Secondly, if you do a brokered load it is at the rate you agree to with that broker. Either way it is your choice as to whether you accept it or decline. Davekc

    florida freight

With Panther Florida isn't too bad if you are a team. That is in or out. More of a struggle for the single drivers as most are team runs out. Singles do better to go to SC for a load out. No waiting there. Davekc

    WANTED Preowned D-unit

Make sure you consider the length of time you want this particular truck. Keeping a truck for a short period(starter truck) or one that you want for several years will make a difference. As they say, look carefully before you leap. Davekc

    Panther straight truck drivers

Unless something has changed within the last two weeks, Panther pays .50 cents per mile on DH. (miles to a dispatched pickup) Empty miles or empty moves (dispatched miles to a location to wait on a load) is roughly .17 cents per mile. The latter varies with the cost of fuel. They do not take a...
