Is This Forum For Everyone, Or Just An Elite Few?

RE: Is This Forum For Everyone, Or Just An Elite F THawk I don't think it is anyones intention to say they are better than anyone else. It is only a brief description of where the information is being derived. This practice is very common in many industries and professions. I hope that...

Hey Tony Thanks for the drivers report on the truck. That is another team in my truck. Good Post! Davekc

    Why Drivers Quit

Isn't it funny how you manage to agree with what he said, yet put him down for daring to advise someone with more 'experience' than he? Apparently you may be reading the posts too quickly. I didn't write whether I agreed with A Team's post or not. I did like Special K's idea. I enjoy different...

    When I was a Newbie.

Now, I was here a long time ago, and I understand Ateam is very upbeat in his views. But where is the crime in that? As I read the post, I see him simply saying that driving for an owner is not the ONLY way to go, that some have 'jumped in' and made it. What's wrong with that? Did EVERY poster...

    New Truck

Congratulations on your new truck. It sounds very nice! I am one of the naysayers when it comes to reefers ect. Your approach is different in that you are trying to run it in a small area. That is usually not typical for expediting. Also, your white glove rate is enough to cover the additional...

    Why Drivers Quit

I think Rich brought up this topic because it is a issue that comes up time and time again with many carriers. The idea of putting drivers in dispatch for a day is a great idea. I would also follow that up with dispatch doing a few ride alongs. Understanding both responsibilities is paramount to...

Average % of empty miles in a week/month

Your numbers aren't that bad. It is a shame that a large percentage don't achieve that figure. We have had several calls just this week from drivers either wanting to switch companies, or wanting to sell me their trucks because they can't make the payments. Maybe you know someone they don't...

    Why Drivers Quit

As the current driver shortage continues to intensify, I think more and more carriers are going to have to pay attention to these kinds of things. McBride had a interesting point in that alot of misrepresentation goes on within many carriers. Everyone is working towards the same goal, so alittle...

Real life reasons to be careful

BP; You got yourself in a situation but were certainly smart enough to get yourself out before it did become too late. I am glad that you found a much better home. As you found out, the best business plan doesn't do much for you with a under performing carrier. Davekc owner 20 years

Real life reasons to be careful

Very good advise. If I have said it once, I have said it 100 times. One must know what it REALLY costs to run their truck(s). Bad things can happen when you don't. Save as much as you possibly can. Davekc owner 20 years

    Customize Condo?

A few more to add to your list would be ARI,Double Eagle and Star Class sleepers. I believe AA does some work like this as well. Davekc

Average % of empty miles in a week/month

Knowing your companies freight lanes and customers is the key. As long as you have the right equipment for your carrier, you are half way there. Reefer and liftgates in my experience failed to pay for themselves. Many of our carriers customers will refuse to load a truck that has a liftgate...

I have seen a uni-cell with a built in sleeper ect. Very nice truck. The driver I met was in Waco Tx and drove for landstar. They make these trucks ready to go in Buffalo NY according to the driver. Very nice set up. They have these same trucks at Panther also. Not sure on the other carriers. Davekc

    What is the standard practice?

I agree. It is much better to run under the carriers authority. In addition, if one is only paying 62%, you are not going to do that well with broker loads. As mentioned, Panther pays 85% and that is a much better rate. They also handle all collections. I have looked at enough NLM boards to...

    What is the standard practice?

This is just available to Panther drivers. You are running under their authority. You would have to lease your truck to them. Davekc

    What is the standard practice?

Raceman I wasn't aware the E1 did broker loads. A good option for those who are having problems keeping their truck moving. I do think Panther has a much better plan as they have a dept for this and handle all of the collections. You don't carry that risk of not being paid or waiting forever for...

Real life reasons to be careful

I agree and hope you get up and running. Excellent post for those wishing to expand or think it is a perfect world and nothing adverse will happen. I get tired of people who claim to have the perfect business plan, and can account for everything. I don't care what business your in, it doesn't...
