I believe this that there is NO driver shortage there is a shortage of driver pay and finally I think the companies are going to have to wake up - they either need to take a smaller cut of what they charge customers are the rate needs to go up. Here is a good article New York Times

Tractors always give you more opportunities due to the amount of freight they are capable of hauling. They are also cheaper to purchase and are in great demand in this industry. If you have the qualifications to drive a T/T I would suggest you look that way especially if you are going to run solo.
