    Fedex loads to Express1

OVM, I have my own authority and customers. I average around 1.50 per loaded mile.

    Fedex loads to Express1

You could be right OVM. A lot of the other companys have driven the van rate real low, so maybe Fedex finds it can make more money by letting E1 run van loads. It is hard to imagine that van rates will go up when so many van operators will haul at these cheap rates. I would consider anything...

july 4th does anyone stay out is it worth it

I ran there some the last couple of years. This year I am running at Pittsburgh Raceway Park. You ever run at Dragway 42?

    HEY VIRGINA ? FEDEX C C!!

Davekc you are right about your own authority. I did that over a year ago and it was the best move I ever made.

Give me Water I have no Bread

You signed a contract to haul for a carrier for a certain rate. This should explain why your income is not being adjusted up. You may want to rethink how wise of a decision it is to let the rates for your business be set by someone else.

    non cdl truck?

If the truck is 26,000 lbs. or under you do not need a cdl to haul freight. I ran a 25,500 lbs straight truck with air brakes for a company about 4 years ago. No cdl needed, just a medical certificate and a log book.

    Looking for loads!

I use a freight factoring service. It is worth the 5 percent I am charged for the service. I also enjoy finding and dealing with customers. I do not deal with brokers.

    slooooooooow

What it comes down to is personal choice. If you want to take short runs, take them. If you want only long runs then just take them. It is your business and you should run it however you want.

    slooooooooow

So what you are saying is that the ones who turn down the short runs are being past over when the longer runs come up. This would be favoritism which we all know does not ever happen in this industry. Or does it? I have heard that in service and load acceptance percentages are on the screen with...

    Looking for loads!

I was leased for about a year. One thing to remember is that you do not have a company to fall back on if something goes wrong. It is a big risk but it is outweighted by the fact that I do not have any company b.s. to put up with.

    Looking for loads!

Now this is scenario no. three. Get your own authority, build your own customer base and deadhead home after every run. This is how I do it and it works very well. I do think you should lease to a carrier for maybe a year to learn expediting, then strike out on your own if you want.

Cargo Van insurance - Clear as Mud !

Try calling CIS listed on the home page under the progressive banner. They can fix you up with the insurance you will need. The insurance I have thru them on my van covers the van all the time so there is no need for bobtail insurance.

STUPID LOAD OFFER OF THE DAY CONTEST

I have a 200 mile minimun policy. It does not matter if it is only a 5 mile run, the rate quote is for 200 miles plus fuel surcharge.

    tri-state rate per mile

Cargojock I am glad to hear tri state is doing well. The desperate move from a company in trouble line was not a rumor. Rate cutting is a sign of a company in trouble. The rumor was that tri state was cutting rates. You posted that they are not so that rumor was laid to rest. Once again I am...

Home Time Didn't Work - DH 2200 miles UT to NC

I believe you are right about the employee status KYoung. A while back Panther fired some drivers for not meeting a certain load acceptance percentage. Because it is not cost effective for Panther or other companys to buy vans and trucks and set them around the country waiting for loads, they...

    tri-state rate per mile

Sounds like a desperate move from a company in trouble. Is this the price they are paying there drivers or the price they are charging there customers? Ether way it does not sound good.

Home Time Didn't Work - DH 2200 miles UT to NC

I would think a independent contractor could take home time whenever they want to. Being out two weeks before you qualify would be more of an employee thing.

    Cargo van logging question..................

395.2 guidance question 14 How must a cmv ( van with hasmat) driver driving a non-cmv (van under 10,001 lbs.) at the direction of the motor carrier record this time? If cmv drivers operate motor vehicles with gvwr of 10,000 lbs. or less at the direction of a motor carrier the fhwa requires...

    Cargo van logging question..................

Part 395.2 on duty (8) Performing any other work in the capacity, employ, or service of a motor carrier would include driving a van without hazmat. There is no difference between a straight truck and a cargo van with hazmat, they both have to log. And according to regs, once you start logging...

    Cargo van logging question..................

Once you do your first log for a hazmat load then you continue to log every day after that. I think this is a subject that needs to be researched for the correct answers before someone gets shafted in a court of law.
