    D Units on the Highways

Or maybe some people do not like paying big money for a truck or van and have a company turn it in to a rolling billboard for themselves. And yes I have noticed a lot of older trucks with smaller carriers lately. Might be a sign of things to come.

If you turn down loads ,will your company fire you

RE: If you turn down loads ,will your company fire Are12, you are right. If the profit is not there, do not take the run. By taking one for the team or an occasional hit for a valued customer you are only helping to keep the rates low. It is the carriers valued customer so let them take the hit...

    "Drumming" up Biz

John I use a packet with a copy of my authority, a insurance certificate, and a business card. I go to local manufacturing companys and talk to whoever arranges for shipping. Sometimes you will get some business and sometimes not. Just keep at it and it will work for you. Col, your comment...

How long will you wait, till deadhead home

I paid $499 for the operating authority. My insurance combined for primary liabilty and cargo costs me $2000 per year. My ability to get and keep customers happy is priceless. I am not a expert at this, I just wanted to be able to have complete control over my business. Now what was the...

How long will you wait, till deadhead home

Broompilot I will make it real simple for you to understand. Get your own authority, get your own customers, and cut out the 40% the carrier takes. This is what I meant by thinking outside the box. Do you understand that I am not leased to a carrier because I am the carrier. And that 40% that I...

    Panther Pals

There are no estimated terms in my company. I give the customer a rate that includes a fuel surcharge and get a rate confirmation sheet that is signed by myself and the customer. This way I know what I am getting paid before the van moves. Fsc which is predicated on the customer actually paying...

Selling your invoices to the J

I factor all my loads at 5 percent with a local company. The only difference between them and a large national company is I knew the owner and he did not require me to have a reserve fund with him. I checked with the j and it was not a bad deal. There are lots of companys that do factoring so...

How long will you wait, till deadhead home

Kellmellus. I deadhead home after every run. And I have been expediting this way for 7years now. Been doing it 2 years with my own authority. I am not making millions this way but I make enough to keep me happy. You will find on this forum that many people believe that the only way to make...

    Insurance and Expenses

Rich I give up 5 percent. I use a local factoring service. There are many services with as low as 3 or as high as 7 percent depending on the amount of freight bills you factor. Giving up 5 percent is better than the 35 to 40 percent the carriers take. My deal pays me in 7 days, but some will pay...

    Insurance and Expenses

What you are saying is right louixo, but remember if you get your own authority you cut out the carriers share of the rate. This should raise the rate you get by about 40 percent. This assumes that you find your own customers and do not use brokers. I do think that the carriers will turn more...

    Legal rights

It should not matter what your acceptance rate is. If you are truely a indepentent contractor you should be able to take or refuse any amount of loads.

fedex o/o want to be paid as employees

Go to todaystrucking.com. There is a news article there about this. This could really shake things up as these o/o have a real good chance at winning this case.

    Express 1 teams

I do not believe that the carriers have a problem with to long between jobs. That would be a contractor problem.

    OOIDA is awesome!!!

Fortwayne, I agree with you on some things but I disagree with you on OOIDA. They may not seem like they are getting much done but they are about the only one I see trying. From what I see on here most of the o/o will not stand up for themselves. Case in point, the fedex insurance increase. If 7...

    ANY EXPEDITE COMPANY'S OUT WEST?

And with more competition and less freight in a slowing economy the rates will be going lower. If like the oil companys there were only 5 players the rates would be a lot higher, but there are hundreds of expediting companys and a lot of competition.

    Cheap Paying Freight!!!!

Let me see if I have this right. The rates are being slashed by cut-throat carriers who now employ less than desirable people. Every major carrier except fedex and landstar haul cheap freight. Fedex and landstar can charge higher rates because they have the cream of the crop drivers that the...

    How low will you go?

First there is no such thing as a slow area for me as I deadhead home after every run. Second and third, I do not sit so I am never bored. Forth, I load myself and average 1.50 per loaded mile. This form of expediting will not work for everyone, but it works well for me.
