    Fedex BR unit

It does not matter what you call yourself, like an employee you still only have two choices. You can accept the pay cut or go to another carrier. There is a third choice, you can get your own authority and become a carrier yourself.

    Fedex BR unit

Yea and the employee working down the street at the ball bearing factory that just learned his wages are being cut by $2.00 an hour has a CHOICE too. Just like you he has the CHOICE to accept the pay cut or move on. Not much difference between your dependent operator status and his employee status.

    FedEx B, C, D, E-Units

In the long run there will should be more loaded miles because Fedex should get more runs because they have reduced there rates to the customers. That is if they do reduce there rates to the customers. You have to understand that there is two reasons to go from a percentage to a much lower flat...

    FedEx B, C, D, E-Units

All Fedex did was to level the playing field so to speak. They used to pay there vans a lot more than the other companies but now they have lowered it to just a few cpm above everyone else. Now they will be able to get more loads for there vans by taking them from Panther, Tri state, E1 and a...

The Thread You Can Use When You Need To

I see Fedex CC cargo vans took a big hit in pay, down to .85 cpm. I guess they decided they needed to go that low to be competitive with the other carriers.

    Panther out of business?

Yes it is slow now and will be even slower during at least the first six months of next year. What would help is if one or more of the major expedite companies fail. This would make more loads for the remaining companies and I believe the A team posted a link to a article that stated this.

    Window Van?

I have always used window vans and they work fine. There are no drawbacks as far as I have found.

    Last two weeks

Might want to try getting your own authority. That way you can find freight from various different companies and brokers. It will be a little more work for you but your trucks will be moving and your drivers will be happy.

    running on your own

Yes they do but they do not have a commercial plate for smaller vehicles, only car and truck plates.

    running on your own

My authority is for 10,000 lbs. and under and I dont haul hazmat. You are right that with authority 10,001 lbs. and up there is alot more to be concerned with. Another thing I found is that the insurance and start up costs are not that expensive. I also found that it was fairly easy to get the...

    running on your own

It sure is O.K. to run this way. If it was originally a passenger van then it gets passenger car plates, if it was a cargo van it gets truck plates. And there is no difference in truck plates between commercial or private. Just the way PA. does things.

    running on your own

In Pa. if it is a passenger van it is classified as a station wagon and gets passenger car plates. A 1 ton cargo van gets truck plates at $198 a year and a 1 ton passenger van gets car plates at $36 a year. The other thing is with car plates, windows, and no markings at all you become invisible...

    running on your own

I run a Dodge 1 ton window van. In pa. it is classified as a station wagon and the plates are standard passenger car and much cheaper then truck plates. This is one of the nice things about having your own authority, you can run what you want with no one telling you how new it has to be or what...

Why do companies require drivers to have new vehcles?

You are right OVM, but dont forget the image part of it. That rolling billboard looks better when it is new and shiny then it does when it is 7 years old.

    running on your own

I have been running under my own authority for 2 1/2 years now. I also believe that this is the wave of the future for those with the ability to do it. It is a big leap from dependent contractor to being a carrier, which is what those of us with our own authority are classified as.

    time

I tell my customers the time it will take based on a 50 mph average. This seems to work well for both myself and my customers.

    Feeling A Little Dumb

I have been in expediting for 8 years now. first as a company driver, then as a leased O/O and finally with my own authority. I have never made a dumb mistake and I am not a liar or a brand new driver. Cheri I find your statement really is UNBELIEVABLE.

    autority

I agree 100% with what your saying Hawk but realize that only about 2 to 3% of the people on this site have the ability to do this. Without a carrier to babysit and hold their hand most could not survive in this business.

please help new to the biz

I run a gutted 15 passenger window van. In Pa. they are classified as a station wagon and plated as a standard passenger car. Plates are $36 a year as compared to $198 for a 1 ton cargo van.

please help new to the biz

You can expedite part time and make good money doing it. I did it for a number of years leased to a small local carrier before I got my own authority and became a carrier myself. The real easy money comes when you get your own authority and there is still lots of easy money out there. Lease on...
