    Panther changed their boards again

I am independent with one van. I was talking about the two trucks on this thread that wanted hometime. As to why more panther people are not broking there own loads , I dont know but maybe one of them will tell us why.

    Panther changed their boards again

Well we have one truck that wanted to go to mich for hometime that is loaded and going to texas and one truck that wanted to go to texas for hometime that is not loaded. And both these trucks are leased to a carrier that allows you to broker your own loads. Just as a passing thought you could...

    update from ctx post

Well maybe if Bobby would have spent more time trying to find loads for the O/Os instead of reading this forum he would not see these type of threads.

Unable to register for Bolt FIRST

I wonder why the post was deleted. I believe the poster stated that they only made $800 in a couple of weeks, was not real happy and called Bolt to complain about it. I see no real reason to delete a post like that.

    This is my final answer

I am not sure how it would work. I have never leased to one of these 5 star carriers and never intend to. You might want to check with your carrier first to see if they allow you to get your own authority.

    This is my final answer

Good post CharlesD. And you van drivers should check into getting your own authority so you can get some a load when your carrier cannot find you one.

    How Slow Are You?

And there are 10 companys on the front page looking for B units. Must be to replace the ones going bankrupt. I know of two vans that were repoed in 6 months, Talked to the guy that was buying them in Nov. He told me about all the money he was going to make and he hardly lasted 6 months.

    Permits

Authority for 10,000# and under is quite different than for 10,001# and up. Not much is required to get or keep it other than maintaining the proper insurance and UCR. I used Permits Plus to get mine.

    How Far To Far

My deadhead is always 50% because I deadhead home after every run. All my customers are located within 75 miles of where I live. This system works great because I write my own rate and it is high enough to cover all the deadhead.

    FECC Rates

You need to call Virginia right away and get a new pair of rose colored glasses because the ones you have now do not appear to be working properly. You are starting to see the cold hard facts about Fedex and they should not be visable through properly working glasses. I do not think that Fedex...

How Does it Feel to Buy Fuel?

I write my own fsc and keep my price for gas at $1.00 per gallon so the pump price really does not bother me. Greg and Dieseldiva take note, we the people are the ones to blame for all this. The people of this country are the ones who keep voting these idiots in washington back into office so we...

Bob Tail Insurance on Cargo Van

I have Drive insurance by Progressive that covers my van 100% of the time with no need for bobtail coverage.

    So much for the strike!

I do not think the ranks will be reduced by any amount. The carriers view there leased contractors as disposable truckers. They have a never ending supply of warm bodies with enough cash or credit to get a truck and run for awhile. When they run out of money and quit the carrier just puts...

    So much for the strike!

If people are treated like employees than they begin to think and act like employees. That is where the employee mentality comes from and it seems like the carriers want it that way.

    Sleeper Questions

According to the Michigan truck drivers guidebook signs on a van are only required for vans registered in Michigan and if a US Dot number is displayed they only need to meet federal requirements. As for Virginia the weight inspection requirement says trucks. I drive a 1 ton window van...

    Sleeper Questions

Any vehicle 10,000# and under not hauling hazmat and not part of a combination is not required to have any markings. If they do it is just company advertising. I have no markings and do not stop at any scales nor do I log at any time.

    You Be The Carrier

That is the way I do it and getting my own authority was the best move I made.

    C.o.l.a

CharlesD, I knew you were independent by reading your posts. My reply was not directed at you, it was directed at those that are leased to a carrier and can only haul freight for that carrier. When you do this you are dependent on that carrier for all your loads. If you are leased to say fedex...

    C.o.l.a

If you lease on to a carrier you are not an indepentent contractor, you are a dependent contractor. And people leased to a carrier do not have the ability to raise there rates. The companys use acceptance rates as a way to get there cheap freight hauled. You have to haul it or your rate will...

    Lower fuel prices

When the company takes cheap freight loads they should absorb part of the cost but they never will as long as they can find someone to run these loads. And when drivers take these loads they become part of the problem and not part of the solution.
