Major loss in the battle against cheap freight!!

I just read another post on here that stated that expediting is a niche that involves moving time sensitive freight at a premium price to the shipper. Now I read here that the rates being paid to the O/O are really low. This leads me to believe that Fedex has found a system that greatly...

    Partner?

If you are running a van and leased to a carrier your insurance bill probably will not go up when you get your own authority. Most carriers have you over insured to help cover there rears also. I run an older van, have $50,000 cargo insurance and my monthly insurance bill is under $200. As far...

    No forced dispatch...

I do not think Dave hates Fedex, it is just the constant cheerleading from the Fedex cheerleaders that gets old. And it is more than just a front man, there is a whole squad on here.

    Leap of Faith

What size vehicle are you planning on using? I have operating authority for vehicles 10,000# and under. The cost for the authority is about $500 if you go thru a service to get it. With this authority there is no safety review, no maintenance logs are required, and you do not need a drug test...

    Your Company Doesn't Care

Uniforms should be just a matter of personal choice. If you want to wear them fine, if not that is fine to. What I have found over the years is that shippers call me for two important reasons, [1] they can trust me to get there freight to its destination safely and on time, [2] my rates are...

    Rate Cuts

Everyone thinks it is the shippers causing the low rates but it is not. The carriers are the ones that keep under bidding each other to get loads and after they take there cut there is not alot left for the O/O. The other problem is the carriers know that they will always find someone to run for...

    Breaking News

I wonder with all the layoffs, cut back in hours for some and the rate cuts for the O/O just how good of shape T/S is in. This all seems like desperate measures to try and save a failing carrier. With the state of expediting right now the failure of some carriers might be a good thing for the...

General Info on Panther and using broker's

Vans 10,000# and under are not required to log so there is no limit on the miles you can go. I have done runs 800 to 1100 miles driving straight thru because the load needed to be there ASAP.

Newbie Cargo Van O/O's first post - Need Advice

Yes it was worth getting and one of the reasons I got it was the company I was leased to priced themselves out of market.

Would the coming AWB be the end of CHYSLER!?!?

Newbie Cargo Van O/O's first post - Need Advice

It was $499 thru permits plus. The authority I got was for 10,000 lbs. and under.

Newbie Cargo Van O/O's first post - Need Advice

I have always deadheaded home after each delivery. If you are getting runs from your home area why bother rotting in a parking lot. It is a lot better to wait at home for your next run. You could get your own operating authority if you want. I used Permits Plus to get mine.

let the attack on panther begin

I got a kick out of what you posted OVM but in reality that is not the way it is. You pick a carrier and if they accept you you will sign a lease with them. It is there lease worded the way they want it and you will do as the lease says or you will be let go. In some cases, and let me make this...

let the attack on panther begin

So what your saying is the carrier bears no responsibility to the O/O for anything even tho the carrier directly controls all of there income. And the guy flipping hamburgers at Mcdonalds can end his partnership with them too and move on.

let the attack on panther begin

Probation is not just for employees, I have seen it used from one company to another. With that said I do believe that most expediting companies refer to O/O as contractors for tax purposes only. Other than that they seem to want to treat them as employees. As far as O/O not being able to make...

    TRISTATE ...when???

I get 95% with 5% going to the freight factoring service, but I do get to set the rate that the company charges the customer.

    TRISTATE ...when???

I am always first out with my company. I hardly ever refuse runs because there are no cut rate loads, always full rate loads. The owner of my company is very understanding also.

How long do you Stay out?

I go home after every run. I am an independent with my own customers that are all located within 75 miles of my home. This may not work for everyone but it works great for me.
