This is because that is exactly what there contractors want. They want to think they are independent contractors that partner with Fedex but in reality they need Fedex to find there loads for them and to be there when something goes wrong to bail them out of a jam. Most of these so called...
It is kind of hard to take control of your destiny when you are leased to one carrier that controls all your income. As far as being rough out here but this to will pass, I totally agree. It only becomes a problem when you go bankrupt and lose your truck before this rough spot passes.
Well as long as we are bringing up old subjects this may as well come up too. From an article on EO from jan. 13 2005 under dollars and sense about workers comp and the O/O there was a court case where a O/O who sued his carrier to be covered under the carriers workmens comp. A lawyer claimed...
I would have a hard time deciding if I wanted to run for a buck a mile and I know I would never haul anything for .70 a mile. That is cheap freight but I guess as long as they can find someone willing to run it that cheap they will keep offering it.
I do not think that he has been suffering that long. I think he is disgusted at the recent changes at Fedex that have lowered his income. First Fedex started skimming some of the fuel surcharge and now they are slashing rates.
And after they get a certain number signed for 70cpm they will start forcing the ones making 77cpm and more to take the lower rate or leave. Notice too how this comes 4 months after fedex lowered there van rate to 85cpm.
Just a couple of more lame excuses to haul cheap freight. You do it, someone else does it and then more do it. Next comes the crying about cheap freight that all of you brought on yourselves.
It is really simple to do something like this and haul for multiple carriers, get your own authority and become a partner carrier with as many carriers as you like.
I am solo in a van and I return home after every run so my deadhead is at 50% all the time. This is the way I have always done it so there is never any year to year change.
Those partners with or partnered with lines are used by carriers to pump up the drivers ego and make them feel more important then they really are. As far as Expedite Solutions, they may be using this partnered with line to add credibility to there company.
I have a 2000 Dodge 1 ton van that gets about 16.5 mpg with the cruise set 66 to 68 mph. I nave noticed a 1/2 to 1 mpg loss when fueling at the Pilots around Louisville ky. the last couple of times I was in that area. I have no idea why.
I have been independent for 3 years now with a van. I work directly with shippers and get no loads from other carriers. I make close to twice the rate that most vans get and my costs are much lower than if I leased to a carrier so I would never even consider leasing to a carrier.
I believe that the disappearing thread was about a couple hundred trucks being dumped by Fedex along with some office people that were no longer needed. With the current state of the economy it might be a good idea if more carriers started cutting fleet sizes.
So I can take it that all of you think that the studies that showed split speeds to be dangerous and unsafe are wrong and if they are right money is more important anyway.
