Cargo Van Thinking about coming back into expediting ?

From what I see, it's bad with all types of freight / size of trucks. Not just amount, but what they are paying. Tough time to come back unless you land somewhere with a ton of regular customers Fell off a cliff partway thru 2023, at least for me - while 2022 was a record year

There's gotta be a better way

Ok, update I saw one of the Promaster cab chassis with Volens sleeper units... WITH A HARDSHELL BOX. So it exists. Previous comment applies, I don't think it was traveling even 50 mph; he was probably trying to not spend everything he just made getting back home :)

Navigating Through the Challenges of Trucking Insurance

This post was over a month ago, but here goes Personally I hired on to an outfit that offered fleet insurance. Generally you need 3 years before anyone will even consider you no matter the price (at least in Canada) By the time I was forced to find my own non-fleet, I had more than 5 years...

Are Endorsements / Certs Worth It?

Hazmat will probably be the first you should get and most all around in demand Yes you need it for a simple skid of paint

There's gotta be a better way

I haven't personally seen one under 10,000 lb manufacturer plate WITH dual wheels (but I get you might be just trying to show the box) Try and rent something. Last week I got 10.3 mpg in my E250 with the short body. You don't want to be stuck with a combo that is too expensive to make money...

Are Endorsements / Certs Worth It?

That is the only way it's worth it (my opinion) Certs are useless on their own without a requirement to use them But ask yourself do you want to compete on price with freight anyone off the street is allowed to deliver, or do you want authority to be one of the only individuals available...

There's gotta be a better way

Huh? Hauling more weight under 10,000 has been solved; a Promaster is about 4200 lb curb and a 3500 can take 3 skids Why I said "huh" I'm trying to understand why you would want to haul 6 empty pallets What is the question, how to haul 6 skids while the truck stays unregulated? Even if they...

Why are Cargo/Sprinter van owner/operator doing loads cheap as 60 cents a mile

:) Missed that No it probably had more to do with the 9 years I drove a route at 74c Canadian a mile. Today for example, that's 55c usd Taught me quite a bit living on that I still use today

    We've been had

Yeah I'm 48 now and while not ancient I was really looking forward to spending less time on my back in the dirt I actually visited one recently (a week waiting for appointment, but he has a propane certification on his Class A mechanic license and I have a reason to need verified licensed...

    We've been had

I never did see the reason to include mechanics. Thank you for letting me know I'll also save time no matter how long it takes me. Mechanics are full here too with appointments a week or two out. Sounds good to relax while somebody else deals with it, until you try...

    Picking a vehicle type

Tractors obviously have more to choose from At this point I'm having difficulty with $2 a mile in an E250 You guys that are looking should probably take a job; tractor or sprinter van; and let the economy tell you which way it's going Or, do what you want (you will anyway) and provide me a...

Things getting slow for anyone else?

Confirmed north of the border I have only 3-4 days a week now as opposed to 7 days most of last year Of course I changed nothing when I had my highest grossing year in history, I've been in this long enough to see multiple crashes Oh. I changed one thing. I bought another van to trade off...

Why are Cargo/Sprinter van owner/operator doing loads cheap as 60 cents a mile

I just did my per mile gross, and I was a little disappointed it came out at $1.58 usd Until I realized that includes empty miles :innocent: There's enough information on this website to even figure out how to make it on 60 cents per mile, although I don't recommend it. Fuel alone right now...

PLEASE!!Somebody show me how owning a van and doing expediting is profitable.

You have a Class A CDL and have driven fuel tankers for 17 years. Running for $1 a mile isn't profitable. So you already have your answers in the question Run Hazmat only loads in a van. It's no $1 a mile One CAUTION: you mentioned a "van payment" just, no. Cash only or forget it. And try...
