    Landstar

You are misinformed if you think a D unit at Panther is running for .80 cents per mile. Depending on your contract, you are running that freight for 1.20 or 1.35 plus whatever that fuel charge is. Fuel surcharge is in the range of .05 to .15 cents per mile. Then again, maybe I am running the...

    EXPO

It seems a catch 22. The drivers like the weekend and have their most available time then. On the other side, dealers and vendors want the show M-Thurs. because they want to be home by the weekend. Hard to tell if you can win with everyone on any given date. We enjoyed the show and had a great...

    Expediting and Road Rage?

As with sensitive shipments or anything else of that nature, concerns usually occur because of carelessness or lack of common sense. There are exceptions to the rule, but they are few and far between. Better chance of getting struck by lightning. Davekc

    Spicer Transmission Replacement?

We had a 7 speed spicer some years ago in a FL70 and it went to around 500,000 when we sold it. Never had any issues with it. It was the direct type transmission. (No sychro). Only downside was new folks had a hard time getting use to it.

    Finances

The newer up to date would be much better for newcomers. Some of the dated stuff can be misleading because they for example caculate fuel prices at a 1.30 for example. Interest rates on new loans will be an issue very soon as well since they are starting to climb. Davekc

Most of the latest truck bomb stories involve people who rent the U-Haul/Ryder rental trucks. World trade center and OKC bombings come to mind. Davekc

    sprinter or cargo van

The best advise that I can think of is to read through alot of the posts on here and then formulate your questions. You post is tough to answer as it is too vague. If the oppurtunity presents itself, go to the Expo this coming week. Alot of your question should be answered there. Davekc

The good, the bad and the ugly?

There are alot of good and bad posts relating to Tri-State. I would read through them to get some idea about them. They are a company in transition so I would take Lawrence's advise and head over to Woodhaven for the Expo. While their recruiters may tell you anything they want you to hear, you...

    TIRE WEAR

To re-apply my earlier thoughts, I think it is the bushings or the kingpins if alignments, centramatics, shocks, and the correct tires don't solve the problem. Spend the few dollars and have it put on a suspension machine. It will find this problem. This machine is not a alignment machine. And...

    Finances

I will take a stab at some of it. I am no expert on vans however the classifieds on here will give you a ballpark on price. Interest rates currently with good credit are around 10 to 11 percent and rising. 500 a month is a reason payment in my opinion. And to start I would have three to six...

You are right on the tires. I was assuming they were using the correct ones. As mentioned in my earlier post, Bridgstone makes a 280 and a 287 tire that is better for a OTR application. I only have had Michelins once on a Freightliner. I never was sold on them and put them on a trailer. They...

    TIRE WEAR

We have had this problem on numerous trucks. When the trucks are new, they use neoprene rubber bushings. They wear out like the bushings on a pair of shocks. They need to be replaced with brass bushings. If alignments and centramatics don't work, then it is changing to a different set of tires...

    Sprinter Van Project From EO!

Looks like it has some great potential. It would be good for dealers and manufacturers as well, so they can see and address some of the service and maintenance issues. Especially since in expediting it is being used in a OTR application. It also would be a great place for service updates that...

    TIRE WEAR

I am assuming that alignments et and all have been tried. You are correct, replacing kingpins is a expensive deal. At 50,000 the kinpins might be ok but the bushings are worn. They are the same as the shocks on your car essentially. If centramatics and alignments don't help, the only other thing...
