    new reefer business

Interesting thought? Might be another reason they are going down this path. Don't have to worry about someone "turning it down to go shopping". Using their employees kinda takes that problem out of the picture. Weather won't likely be much of a factor if they go that route. Much different than...

    new reefer business

I think some fail to see the bigger picture. Their intent is to provide a cheaper guaranteed service to the customer. Of course the one defending this as a good idea has already spent that 200,000 plus on a truck. If Express is offering next day service, what would a WG glove truck offer other...

    new reefer business

You won't need a reefer if the battery runs out, but will need a charging system off the truck or a APU that can charge them if 100 hours or greater is needed. All of that exists now. I think there will still be WG, but it will consist of security/surveillance loads, art work, and some curb...

    new reefer business

I still think there will be some curb side business, but not enough to support that kind of investment. And if everyone can do it, rates won't be much different than regular surface expedite rates. They have been talking about this and doing it on a limited scale for the last year but it looks...

    new reefer business

Got this in my email today. Might want to wait on that $200,000 reefer. These containers come in several sizes so any truck can do reefer loads. Just have to keep the batteries charged. If it requires over 100 hours of service, truck would have to have a charging unit or generator if you...

    Thanks TA

Great advice. The Davco fuel/heater seperator are a must have on any truck we have bought.

    A little help pls

Your most economical way to approach something like this is to approach a fleet owner with a truck to drive. You can both go to the carrier and go through orientation and drive the owners truck as a solo initially. Then you can use that truck for your test. If she feels uncomfortable, practice...

    allison transmission

Some good points. Remember also on some Allisons they have a mode button that is set incorrectly. Many don't take the time to read a manual and have it set for city driving, Will make a certain difference of fuel economy. Also, if the rpm's are too high, take it to the dealer and have the...

How to cope the slow season?

I think the experienced folks are just a little better prepared this time than some of the others. I am really seeing some that got too accustomed to several years of non-stop running, and then went to real slow. Looking at classified ads and trucks getting repoed starts to paint that kind of...

    Panther Macro 8 being changed?

Nope...not changed yet. Supposed to be this week. We will see. Certainly still broke in Atlanta were we just had a truck do one.

Something to consider. If you have water present in your tank and it gets too low, quess what? Also, if you have long cylinder tanks and you get on a grade, fuel will run to the back of the tank away from the pickup tubes. You can probably quess what happens next.

    allison transmission

I would say Piper has it right. Most of it depends on how the truck is speced and what type of Allison is in it. I would suspect as in Phil's case it was the wrong Allison transmission, or the rear end ratio was not matched correctly for the application. If one is only getting 6.5 mpg, it...

    allison transmission

They are pretty much bullet proof. Should come with a 500,000 mile warranty. Keep in mind they do add weight and cost, but I personally think they are worth every penny.

The best hope for any straight truck getting 20 mpg is the one that is going down a cliff.

    Truck Vacuum

We had tile floors and used bath rugs on the floor which we would through in the laundry. That would remove all the dirt and pet hair. As for a vacuum, we used a electric dirt devil with the rotating brushes. It worked well and had the crevise hose and tools.

Mitt Romney, champion of the working man

Like the last election, it may come down to picking the less of two evils. Gregg, I thought you would be a big Huckster supporter because he supports the fair tax plan? He may as well actually stand a chance, but he better pick a running mate that is loaded with foreign policy...

    Im concerned about...

We have been busy this January. Oddly enough, at the pace we are going, it may wind up better than December. No real reason for it except maybe less trucks out?
