    A sign of success

Not sure on a Sprinter, but I can tell you they are very effective on a RV. Not enough to run a AC, but will trickle charge the system to keep everything else powered up.

sweetbillebob I wouldn't recommend taking loads that are unprofitable just for the sake of moving the truck unless its to a more profitable area. I think the answers you get are going to be very generalized because everyone operates at different levels. I think you wold be better served to...

    A sign of success

some people just cannot see the sun... Maybe...maybe not. Kinda like the old question of "is the glass half empty, or half full"? Depends on whether you have the water to put in the glass.

    Belt

That would do it. When a load is put on the engine it will move it out of alignment. If it is doing that all the time, that would certainly put excessive wear on the belt.

    Belt

Oil dripping on a belt could potentially cause it to slip a little but not come off. Hard to say without looking at it but my suspicion would be the pulley assemblies are out of alignment somewhere. Even more so if you had the tensioner/idler pulley replaced.

To succeed in this business, you have to do more than buy a truck and wait for the roast chicken to fly into your mouth. ============================= Phil, You are starting to sound like the Colonel. But, that quote is spot on.

    Company Stats

I would have to think that on every ten load offers you are turning down at least 7 of them, that would be cause for concern. However, you can't run any straight truck at 1.04 per mile and expect to keep it. That rate sounds more like a van load rate. To be fair, is it just the result of...

    Hand Load?

I would agree with Leo on this. Time still has to be factored into any type of blanket load. I look at it as a value added service. I expect my drivers to be compensated accordingly. Any load that we have done like that whether in or outside of the carrier, we have been paid. If you start...

    FDCC Compared To Landstar

If your doing $1.91 for all miles, I would stay were you are at. If that is just for the loaded miles, I would be looking elsewhere.

    60/40 split?

As far as looking at the larger carriers, I can't see any instance where a driver would come out ahead financially with a 40/60 split unless the truck has no generator, or they are deadheading all over the place.

    60/40 split?

In all most instances, the 60/40 will pay the driver more than a 40 split unless one is DHing all over the place. The other exception would be a budget carrier with a lower rate and low FSC. That is also taking into consideration that the truck gets reasonable economy and is equipped with a...

    About Load Acceptance and Debt

My personal opinion is to pay off the truck if, and I say if that is your single source of income, and then invest. Both have valid points depending on ones personal circumstances. There is great income to be made on borrowed money. Just make sure as mentioned that you can risk what you throw in...

I would question the 34 percent number. 15 is probably more realistic. If it was 34 percent, where are all these trucks in Canada? There are trucks, but no large numbers that I see. Then again, they may be counting the Elite loads as well.

    Catch 22

Have to agree on a few points by others. The cheaper companies do operate on the premise that drivers don't know what it costs to operate. Secondly, it is more advantages to run as a debt free operation. We have done it for a long time and it does entertain certain advantages. With that...

Check their rates and FSC and you will have your answer. Think I would review several carriers prior to a commitment.

    Food Stamps

To make sure I understand this correctly, what percentage of the gross does the owner take? Does he pay any maintenance on the truck? Or,are you paying at times and you are reimbursed at a later date?

I would agree. Saint Louis is usually pretty busy. On a side note, I don't think I would have DH'ed from Memphis to Nashville. That could turn into the luck of getting to Nashville and get offered a load back to Memphis. Have to agree with the others on that one unless you were deep in a lot...
