    Your Company Doesn't Care

Ok...back on track. CharlesD's company cares because he is the company. He isn't leased to a carrier. Your point is well taken though, thus a reefer debate of sorts took off. Your situation is what I was really responding to on the investment side of things. Sorry for the derail.

    Your Company Doesn't Care

I would agree with that. But they have to run continously at a much higher rate to carry the same numbers. If they do, that is great. I have never seen it with other trucks, and I certainly never seen it with the ones we had owned in the past. My investment dollars have always went farther on a...

    Your Company Doesn't Care

I never said they were crashing faster than dry vans. The percentage of dry vans compared to reefers is huge. There aren't that many of them out there. I also didn't say you couldn't make money with them. I am simply saying they aren't as good of investment dollar for dollar with all things...

    Your Company Doesn't Care

That is exactly what I am saying. Since I am a fleet owner, I just look at the numbers. Some are my own, and some are others. We have also had the opportunity to look at other fleet owners numbers recently that are trying to sell their fleet. For easy figuring, a basic new dry van can be had...

    Your Company Doesn't Care

I totally agree. A year or two from now, it could be totally different.

    Your Company Doesn't Care

There is no secret where to find the information. Numerous load boards all the way down to Getloaded show the average price of a load and what it bid at. One can also go to the Fed, 3PL's or Panthers bid board and do the same thing. Many on this site have access to either one. Again, hardly a...

    Lift Gate?

May want to PM Steve aka Nightcreature, if you are at the Fed. He should be able to give a good picture.

    Your Company Doesn't Care

I am only speaking of reefer loads, and I look at loads from ALL of the carriers. Not anyone specific carrier. Without a doubt, a truck that can do DOD, Canada, surveillance, hazmat and the like will certainly benefit. Those requirements don't need a reefer. All I look at is the return...

Poll: Pay per mile, or percentage pay?

As long as they give you the actual bill to the customer, then your good to go. I would verify with a call to a occasional customer that your provided numbers are accurate. Since I was the unsuspecting customer, that is how I found out. Paperwork from the carrier looked good, but it didn't...

    Your Company Doesn't Care

Bingo!!!! That is what I am talking about. We had reefers up until the early part of last year. If I didn't buy them for pennies on the dollar, I wouldn't have had them then. There is the supposed lifestyle "prestige" of having one, but since I don't drive anymore, I only look at the numbers...

    Your Company Doesn't Care

Don't see many supporting your thought now. Just as I indicated over several years. Show me a margin anywhere that is equal or greater, then I might change my mind. Not some goofy exception. At this point, not seeing it based on any industry reports. I think I am doing the new folks a great...

Poll: Pay per mile, or percentage pay?

I find I am a little sensitive on this issue because I have in the past booked loads when I was very active in the vending industry. When loads went onto my own trucks, I found from two different carriers that we were getting ripped off. In those cases, we were on a percentage. The argument...

Poll: Pay per mile, or percentage pay?

I would agree. A percentage works IF there is verification of the actual billings to the customer. Over the years, some carriers have been very resistant to do that, or run the load through a self owned third party to make the charges anything they want. "Trust, but verify" And, I would do it...

    Your Company Doesn't Care

There will always be exceptions. But there is a obvious reality or we wouldn't have a post of this nature in the first place. It doesn't mean someone will go broke or anything like that. Way too many things to look at to make that any kind of conclusion. But I can look at the amount of loads...

    Your Company Doesn't Care

LOOK SHARP, ACT SHARP, AND DEMAND NECESSARY COMPENSATION FOR YOUR EFFORTS Yep....what is your "NECESSARY" and what is reality might just be a little different. Again, don't take it personally as I notice this is your second post. (Welcome by the way). Just giving you the industry view from...

    Your Company Doesn't Care

And there is where the problem lies. They are pricing themselves out of the market for the type of freight that is there. I believe most carriers do care that their operators succeed, but only if they are making money in the process. One of those "Its business, and nothing personal". If...

    Your Company Doesn't Care

I think Charles has it right. That freight that you turn down because it doesn't meet your 1.50 per mile requirement is a self inflicted business decision. Remember, it was your decision to buy your reefer. They are becoming a casualty because of the high purchase and operating costs. The...

    Bankruptcy Thank You

I think I would be jumping ship and grabbing a lawyer. Notice they drop their advertising here on EO as well. That can happen when the focus gets too much on undercutting everyone. If you run cheap enough and long enough, eventually it will catch up.
